  • Frank-Cuban cigars and rum

    Saw this on marketwatch.com.
I figure Frank is happy with this news:

In a historic move, the U.S. and Cuba are on the road to normalize relations after 50 years of animosity — and that means more of the island nation’s highly coveted cigars and rum will find their way into the U.S.

The pact allows licensed American travelers to import $400 worth of goods, but no more than $100 of which can be tobacco products or alcohol. These products will not be allowed to be resold.

Cuba is famous for its handmade cigars, which is one the country’s most lucrative exports. In a BBC article in February, they reported that Habanos’s total sales reached $447 million in 2013. That number jumped from $416 million the year prior.

This has been talked about for the last 6 years. It finally happened. We are going to be flooded with fakes. I wonder if we can order direct from Cuba?

Once the visit embargo is lifted I might venture down there.

Me too. Some of our friends have made the trip to Cuba from Cancun and others just sailed in.

If you are in the Cayman Island you can see Cuba from the town. There is a short ferry ride from there to Cuba. I bought 4 boxes from a legit Cigar store back with me from that area in the Cayman's. I had gotten a great deal from that store. We bought 6 boxes, but 4 were mine. We had a big crew with us so I took off the labels and put Cigars in every one's suit case's. Everyone was so nervous they were going to get pinched.
If buying right from Cuba I would say that the price will be about 25/30% even less than the Cayman's.
