In a historic move, the U.S. and Cuba are on the road to normalize relations after 50 years of animosity — and that means more of the island nation’s highly coveted cigars and rum will find their way into the U.S.
The pact allows licensed American travelers to import $400 worth of goods, but no more than $100 of which can be tobacco products or alcohol. These products will not be allowed to be resold.
Cuba is famous for its handmade cigars, which is one the country’s most lucrative exports. In a BBC article in February, they reported that Habanos’s total sales reached $447 million in 2013. That number jumped from $416 million the year prior.
