Electric Cars

Who has one and how do you like it. I may need to purchase a vechicle for tax reasons this year and was considering an ev but Im not sure the range of 75 miles would work. If I get an ev there is no sales tax and maybe a $7500 tax credit.

What happens if you run out of charge ? Do you carry a device or generator to emergency charge ?

I own a Ford Fussion Energi, I get 25 miles on a charge and then it goes over to gas. Cost me $1.06 to charge. 1 charge last my wife about 5-6 days. We went to VA RT on a 10 gallon tank, 700 miles.

My family would take to over my Benz which they hate.

Dh and I took a class called "The Car Guys" recently. The man who gives the class has a lot of knowledge and the class was very interesting. We talked a bit about electric cars. The consensus was they would be a pain in the neck, due to the need to charge often. The other thing is, if you're thinking electric because the car will be "green", that's not the case.

Im not concerned with the car being green, lol. The state is offering no sales tax or user fee which is worth about $2000, the fed is offering $7500 tax credit and Nisan is offering $3500 rebate. About $13,000 incentives that makes the new car cost about $13,000 - $14,000 after all is said and done.

The drawback is the 70 - 80 mile range and long charge time with this Leaf.

It would probably all depend on how much you intend to drive the car, and what kind of distances you drive.

Look at the Ford Cmax and the Ford Fusion Energi before buying a Leaf. You can never get stuck. Charge time on my Fusion if the battery is fully drained is 6 hours on a standard 110 volt Line 3 hours on a 220 volt line.

Real world range is more like 60.

It would be ok as a second car for errand running. It's basically an enclosed golf cart.
