And the big one from Craigslist sales or rentals:
    #11. Fraudulent/Fake Check Scams
Reported countries: Nigeria, India and USA
    Damages reported: $200-$3000+

One of the most popular scams involves scammers convincing unwitting victims to accept fraudulent/fake checks.

Victims with banks accounts in the United States receive checks for whatever reason at much higher amounts than expected.

I have been trying to sell my old scooter on craigslist. I keep getting offers from buyers (scammers) that want to buy it, will have a certified check delivered to me by DHL and will have their moving company handle the delivery of the scooter. But of course, the check payment was too much and they want me to refund their overpayment. I had the same thing happen when trying to rent my timeshare, 'oh that check was supposed to pay for our food too, so please refund the additional amount so we have funds for the vacation'. Yup. I'll get right on that.
