They are indeed steep. The taxes to fly there are pretty shocking, too.

That is one of the reasons we do the 3 hour drive to Buffalo from Toronto, so that we can fly out of Buffalo. It is the nicest little airport, and we are staunch fans of Southwest airlines.

I've only been to Buffalo once but I remember thinking the same thing....this is a nice little airport. Surprised me.

I am very surprised to have run in to a number of Americans lately who are driving up to Canada to fly from there as they are finding the prices cheaper!

We live about 45 minutes from Windsor Ontario. We often see international flights that are much cheaper from Windsor than from Detroit.

Air Canada has been having some amazing deals on flights to Europe.

Mmm, there were times that I flew through a Canadian airport to reach an international destination. Our latest was going through Montreal to Venice as the airfare was much cheaper that way. I had also connected at Vancouver to go to Hong Kong and Shanghai, all due to cheaper fares. So yes it's a bit surprising to read the article you posted.
I guess there are always exceptions...
