  • Moving to another state

I'm starting a new thread because the some of this is tied up in the second home thread.

What are some of the things you have to do when you change your residency from one state to another?

    Thanks,
    Nancy

Yeah, that's why I said that that thread was not necessarily concerned with residency, just having two places.

Study residency requirements in the state you are moving to, and what benefits may be derived by declaring residency there. Apply for any benefits, especially property tax exemptions. Find out what to do to declare residency in that State. You may have to execute a form of domicile document. In short, you swear that you are a resident of __________.

Change your Driver's License and vehicle/vessel registrations. Change your Voter Registration, normally at the same time.

Update your address on EVERYTHING. Don't forget Social Security, ACA or Medicare, IRS. I did not mention it here, but when we moved to the house next door (in Florida), when I contacted healthcare.gov to tell them that, they had to complete a whole new application on the phone . . . at least an hour . . . and it changed DW's monthly benefit, which has happened five or six times this year.

    Update/change your insurance . . . home, auto, health.

    So, give up on Florida?

Moving for good. Just want to know what we need to do, so that we don't miss anything.
