I get up this morning and my computer tells me it requires a restart for an update from my friends at Microsoft. OK. Fine. I have a little time before I need to do something. Go ahead.
I restart. It updates. I open edge and then go to open chrome. Edge opens. Nada on the chrome. I mean dead air it doesn't even open up in a new window. Well now here's a sticky wicket because I use 2 browsers all day long and those 2 have always played relatively nicely on the circa May 2016 asus windows 10 laptop.
Come to try a few others because I'm not married to chrome and nothing else opens.
Turns out our friends at microsoft are trying to prevent the use of other browsers entirely by dedicating your computer to bing through Cortana ( see update mentioned above).
After a little research I did find a working solution which may come i handy to those of you who have yet to be strong armed:
I just installed Windows 10 Pro and I don't have internet on Google Chrome,Mozila Firefox,Steam,Spotify, etc.
I can only go on internet when using Microsoft Edge, and the computer said that it has connected to the internet when I put the cursor over the internet icon.
Please help
I had the same problem. What helped me was starting CMD (command prompt) as Administrator and then type: netsh winsock reset
Then enter and restart the computer.
So far so good.
Hope this helps someone. An open system should NOT be telling us which browser we have to use. JMHO
