  • Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

My friend told me that this is the absolute best card for anyone who travels. I have been reading up on it and wonder if any of you have it.
As usual, I have come late to the party. They were giving 100,000 points when they first came out with it. That bonus is now down to 50,000. They give 1.5 dollars in points for each point when redeemed through them for travel, so that gives you $750 worth the first year. The annual fee is $450 per year. For that, you get a $300 credit back for travel expenses. You also get free travel insurance, and the fee foe TSA precheck reimbursed every 3 years. Also you get a membership to the airport lounges with guests, and extended warranty protection purchased with the card.
My friend feels that the benefits and the points earned and redeemed much more than make up for the net $150 annual fee.
    Any thoughts on this?

I'd tend to agree. Both my wife and I signed up during the initial 100,000 bonus, but I'll cancel hers before the renewal (we previously had/used the Sapphire Preferred).

The benefits are per calendar year. At the very least, if you signed up now you would get the points, the $300 travel credit for 2017, and the $300 travel credit for 2018. Cancel before your renewal, and they've paid you $150 to use the card for a year.

American Express Platinum is another card you might want to compare.

I have the Reserve card and have been very satisfied. I canceled my Preferred at $90/per year and got the $300 back, so it has cost me $60 so far.
The trip insurance is worth me having it, as well as the trip cancellation insurance, etc. It is also primary up to, I believe, $50,000 for claims that might arise from auto rental.

My wife just within the last two months switched over to Chase because of the extra perks. I am not sure which card she has but my son was the one who told her to get it. I believe she gets cash back with hers.

If you want the 100,000 points try applying in a Chase bank and ask for that offer.

I'm not but I had some other Chase cards so they considered me a customer.

They can also waive the 5/24 rule. The manager explained they aren't hard rules. Just guidelines.

Thanks. We do have 2 other Chase cards so we will be good on that. I am okay with the 5/24 rule too, so I will check it out!

Being the procrastinator that I am, I just went to the branch today to ask if I can get the 100,000 point offer, but no dice.
Too bad, but I did apply online and was approved right away.
Now I wait for the card and start charging!!
