    British politics is getting dicey right now, but our American media seems to ignore it. Prime Minister Theresa May struck a very one sided deal with the EU over Brexit that is so stacked in the EU's favor that her former Foreign Minister, who resigned over May selling out the UK's interests to the EU, says it makes the UK virtually a colony of the EU. Now May is having mass resignations from her government. Her coalition partner, the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland, on which her parliamentary majority depends, has called it a bad deal and announced they will vote against it. Twenty members of her own party have submitted no confidence letters to the House of Commons and it looks like a vote of no confidence to bring down her government is likely.

      I have just returned from taking some relatives from Europe to Williamsburg / Yorktown / Jamestown, and I was very disturbed over the political nature of the introductory film at Jamestown. It only lightly touched a on few factoids from the actual Jamestown story as it played to a "politically correct" multicultural theme. It was more about selling multiculturalism than about telling the story of our first successful English settlement. I was utterly appalled at this rape of our history for political purposes. It was also hard to grasp the real story of Jametown from the presentation of museum exhibits. I have not been to Jamestown in years, but it was not like that when I went before. Williamsburg and Yorktown were much better at telling the real history of what happened without the modern political overtones. To make matters worse at Jamestown, while I was waited for my relatives to look for souvenirs at the gift shop, I sat down outside in a seating area that had a large screen TV playing. That turned out to be a hard core alarmist presentation on "climate change" from a branch of the Dept of Interior dealing with that phantom. That was just more hard left politics. Sickening!

      I hope that President Trump can depoliticize our national historic sites where they present real history not modern political dogma.

          Yeah, right. It's the right that wants to rewrite history. And the current wacko of the white house keep making false claims about everything from the inauguration to raking leaves to prevent forest fires. I don't remember anything slanted about Jamestown or any other sites in Williamsburg. Too bad you didn't like the multiculturalism that made this country great. I can only assume that you are leaning towards white nationalism or believe all the crap coming out of an orange head about Mexicans and muslim refugees.

            Over the course of my life I've found that the desire to rewrite history to match desired narrative is a human trait, which is found in all places, all times, and in all political stripes. And since every one of us, without exception is subject to that foible known as confirmation, we readily accept the revisions to history that match our narratives, while scorning those that don't fit.

            Based on that presumption, my personal response has been that I should try to be more skeptical and critical of opinions that I agree with, and more inqistive of those that make me feel uncomfortable or that anger me. That's a strategy that I have found very useful.

                The last time I visited the Hermitage in Tennessee I was shocked to hear the guide explaining that president Jackson moved the native tribes, The Trail of TeArs, to help them. I was more shocked when the current President stood in front of Jackson’s portrait to award the Navaho Code Talkers from World War II and went on his Pocahontas rant.

                  What I want to know about any historic site is what happened there, not a bunch of extraneous material about something unrelated or only vaguely related. Spending time on unrelated material left out the time needed to tell the story of Jamestown. The Indians, of course, could have been woven in easily as part of the historic narrative and should have been. But to weave in blacks they had to talk about Virginia history at a later period and that reduced the time to tell the Jamestown story. Also, instead of weaving it in as should have been done, it was constantly thrown in your face.

                  The knee jerk far left always wants to label anyone who does not agree with them as a "white nationalist" or a "white supremist". I sure hope you are not picking up those habits.
