I read both TS4MS and TUG as well as the Yahoo Fairfield group. I find that each has a different tone but that there is a lot of good information being shared by a lot of people who love timesharing.

For someone who was fortunate to find a couple of these websites before purchasing a TS, I am very grateful. It allowed me to make informed decisions.

I still waiting to find out if they were good decisions.

I agree with most. TUG's moderators will edit, itimidate or end a discussion as soon as tthe popsts become a alittle controversial(ie points vs weeks) and therefore interesting.

I post on both, obviously. My feeling is, if you're "bored" with TUG, or don't like the way the site is handled or whatever, just don't post there. No need to bring it up here. Okay, I'm done now.

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I think this is excellent advice - and it's exactly why I have refrained from trying to counter some of the comments made in this thread.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

            “You shouldn't wear that body.”

I enjoy the fact that I have the freedom to visit, read (both negative & positive comments as there is generally two sides to every opinion) and post on both boards. Being new to TS I seek out as much information as I can find hopefully harvesting the grain and letting the chaff fall on both of the forums.

The freer the forum, the more it will thrive. Stiffle free speech, and people will go somewhere else. It's as simple as that.

I also like the freedom at www.timesharetalk.co.uk

TUG vacillates. It goes through phases that it gets better, and then it starts veering back toward the thought police. I keep my fingers crossed and still participate. I would never urge anyone as of now to avoid the site or not participate, but I don't encourage people to use it as I once did. Some of the practices there still concern me enough that I would not tend to recommend a link to it as I once did for other timeshare sites.

But I know the order in which I usually check sites - 1) here, 2) timesharetalk, 3) flyertalk, 4) TUG. That order has changed as sites have changed.

I don't agree. A site can thrive without total free speech. In fact, the best sites are moderated and have a consistent behavior of moderation that defines the site and acceptable posting behaviors. And, those posting behaviors are general principles of conduct. That's all any site can do. It requires judgement.

The most active timesharing site I know is www.disboards.com. It is heavily moderated and it is more successful than all of the sites you listed combined.

I'm not one in favor of restricting freedom of speech, but there has to be some limits. Everytime TUG comes up the limits get stretched or broken, so I think we have to stop talking about it in open forums. This is a part of what I had to sauy in the moderators forum:
...We have TUG lovers, TUG haters and people without strong feelings. The first two groups will get along together much better if they don't get involved with controversy about TUG-so it will be better if it is not discussed or at least not discussed in the open or non-opt-in forums. We are trying to create a more peaceful community without resorting to excess restriction of the freedom of speech.

That's been my experience as well. Every unmoderated - or even loosely moderated - board I've ever been involved with has disintegrated.

You know, you can say what you want to say without insulting other members. Try it sometime instead of trying to be as crude and confronting as possible. This applies to anyone who takes delight in hurling insults at people they either choose to dislike or with whose opinion they don't happen to agree.

Also, I think if people want to say something negative and you don't like it, then don't read it. You don't have to support their opinion to support their right to voice their opinion. If people choose to go on endlessly about their favourite topic and you find it annoying, then ignore it. As long as no personal insults are thrown, no one has the right to say to someone else that they have beaten a dead horse or are too one tracked or too negative, etc. I mean, you have the right to say it but don't expect admin and mods to go around approving and disapproving topics.

                          That's JMHO.

Trev you are a friend, so I will tell you as I see it with no BS. I missed the post that Ken removed as I was busy writing Pm's for the last issue we had. Anyway I got to see your post that was removed. I am happy Ken removed it because I would have been put in a position to edited it. You pretty much told someone to go off and scratch and go to Tug if they don't like it. Come on bud I love you but thats a and you know it. Go smoke one of those cigars I gave you and give me a call when your free.

Reading this thread alone, I picked up two new links so I keep reading the new posts many times during the day.

I agree with what Sydney has to say. We can agree not to agree but do it nicely. We all want the best value of our time, money and effort. Arguing with each other takes it out of you.
