My "opinion" and one of the reasons I got booted off DISboards is that I was very much AGAINST this new one transfer rule as I felt it hurt me (an owner with 1,000 points) as compared to an owner with the DVC minimum purchase of only 150 points.

Last year, I did not use all my DVC points and was able to transfer some extra points to other DVC owners for $10pp. Now that you can only do this once per year, everyone will have to be careful of the amounts the want to transfer.

This also hurts the SMALL DVC owner as I see many posts like this "HELP....I need only 4 points....anyone interested in transferring points to me???" and nobody wants to burn their one transfer per year to only transfer 4 points.

In the past, I perferred to transfer extra points (@ $10pp) to existing DVC owners, rather than make reservations for non-DVC owners (@$11-12pp) because it was so easy and hassle free.

Now....I will may make reservations for non-DVC owners and possibly try to grab the Christmas/New years holidays (which I personally never go to Disney during these times) as they will bring in the big rental bucks ($14pp).

So...in my opinion...this new rule enforcement will actually HURT the small DVC owners. The commercial renters on eBay will still thrive, But I have never posted a rental on eBay.

rules like the one transfer per year rule are really bad for the club. There is clearly a strong market for rental points and now Disney is severely crippling it. In the end, all owners will be hurt because of this new rule.

I don't like the new rule either as it is very restriction. I haven't rented points but I have transferred points. In my cases, the transfers were of 5 points, 12 points, and 19 points. These extra points were what were necessary for the other owners to make their reservations as they fell that amount short. Since I didn't need them, it also helped me. The new rule restricts my ability to make multiple small transfer such as what I have done in the past. I have 255 points which allows me to stay in a 1-bedroom at most of the resorts for the period of year that I travel (252 points max) but many times I travel at less busy periods with lower points so I end up with extra points that I didn't need this year. As an example, I only used 167 points this year so I have some extra points that I banked until next year.

There is another aspect to the 1 transfer rule. One of the things I also don't like is that I must contact DVC and tell them explicitly that I wish to bank the points from year to another. There is also a timetable where I can transfer only a certain percentage of my points (6 months 100%, 3 months left 50%, 2 months left 25% - the last two months you cannot bank any points). So in effect, if I don't specify that I wish to bank from one year to the next, I lose them at the end of my use year. The new transfer rule also makes it highly unlikely that I can transfer my points to another owner unless they wish to take all my extra points. It seems highly unlikely that they will need all my points as they will either need less, in which case that is all they wish to rent, or they will need more, in which case they will be looking for somebody else who can fulfill the need. The effect is that it makes planning the use of the points more important.

I wonder how many DVC points "expire" and are not used.

Perhaps that is the hidden reason for the rule enforcement.

I imagine a conversation something like this: Disney CEO to a board member, "Let's put restrictions on DVC point transfers and that will increase the number of unused points so we can have empty rooms that we can use for cash paying customers."

          Am I paranoid?

              IMHO, probably.

Not Disney owner nor plan to, but if it very similar to FF, a great ratio of its money will come from existing owners buy more points. I know few FF owners bought it because they want to enjoy it when they retire. So ablity to rent extra point out is important. And since it is RTU, the existing owners and how they feel toward the company is very important. TS is extra cost, and as expensive as Disney, it probably will be able to really sell in small % of group, it is not good to make it more inflexible. More likely maybe they plan to fix something, but did not think what is the best approach or don't know what it could be and make that restriction. Or maybe that is the best way to deal with the problem they are looking at? I don't think they are trying to get owner waste their points so they can sell more points to them.

I believe to transfer point to another account, the otherside has to be owner. If reserve a week and rent out, the otherside don't need to be. So to restrict anyone to be able to transfer only once, will only help people that use it as business that they will receive points from other owner and make reservation as business. If that is case, maybe we will see a lot of premium Disney vacation available for rent in internet? Maybe it will help in the long run?
