You are being tracked - Urgent information for all Yahoo group members
Just a warning... I am not really sure that this is based on a yahoo account or if it works off your computer itself!
You may need to do this on each computer as every computer has it's own unique cookie!
If you computer has antispyware software that looks at cookies, it will likely detect this.. the problem is you can't block all cookies as the cookie is what lets people in a website like this...
Yes, that is true, I also had to also opt out my wife's computer. So be sure if you are opting out to do it on all computers you might be using on the internet.
I went to the page where you can "opt out" and clicked on it so supposedly I am opted out successfully but I wasn't even logged into Yahoo so I logged in and tried again but I was opted out already. The computer must know if you are in Yahoo or not?
I wonder if Google, Hotmail and all the others use this too? I like the idea that ads are targeted to my interests on the web page so long I don't receive them by email.
You are being tracked - Urgent information for all Yahoo group members:
If you belong to any yahoo Groups this is important...
Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going similar to cookies. They are recording every website and every group you visit.
What are Web Beacons, otherwise known as Web Bugs, and how do the work?
A web beacon is a transparent image file used to monitor your journey around a single website or collection of sites. They are also referred to as web bugs and are commonly
used by sites that hire third-party services to monitor traffic.
They may be used in association with cookies to understand how visitors
interact with the pages and content on the pages of a web site.
Just in case it wasn't covered or obvious, multiple browsers on the same computer (I have 5 and 4 distinct background systems) should be treated as seperate entities as well, at least on Macs...
Since I have a real business web site and my personal info has been all over the net for years and I have a paid mail acccout with Yahoo, I really don't care. There's another part of the net where I do all my fun stuff that Yahoo isn't a part of
