  • I just paid $8.50 for a gallon of gasoline

With everyone excited about $2.50 per gallon average for 1 gallon of fuel, I cried after getting 4 gallons of leaded racing fuel @ $8.50 per gallon.

I had to buy 4 gallons of 116 octane LEADED fuel to put into my 1967 corvette (427ci/390hp) to get it to stop pinging.

Now she runs like a beast!

Have you tried Aviation Gasoline?....it has got to be cheaper than that and you will get the same octane levels. Try your local airport. Now I have not been flying for some time but they used to have green 100/130 octane fuel. They also had blue 100 octane Low Lead. I am not sure if they offer the green stuff anymore.

I think that would depend on the Pony it is running with...

Still, sound like a fun car... We have a 67 Mustang Convertible but somehow I am always too busy to work on the car anymore... Our 67 is a little 6 so no threat from her!

            Bill,

Where in the world does one find 116 octane leaded fuel these days?

In the pits of a Nascar race perhaps?

My wife said they are talking about switching Nascar cars over to unleaded fuel soon however...

I am lucky to live near one of the VP Fuel stations (in Fort Lauderdale), but they can't pump it into the car, I had to put it into a red 5 gallon tank first.

A friend reccomended Aviation fule, but I think it is unleaded and I need good old fashioned LEAD. But this may work and I need to see who sells it near me.

My car scored a 96% and earned Top Flight at the NCRS national show in San Antonio last month and I hope to sell it at Barrett-Jackson auction in January in Scottsdale (estimated at $150k).

I will probably need a TS rental that week...

My corvette will SMOKE that Shelby I rented last week in LA....no problems there.

Did you rent one of the Hertz Shelby's? If so, they are badged to be a Shelby but they are basically just a GT with a tuned suspension... The GT 500 is something like 450+ HP with the supercharger and is more car then I "think" the average person can rent....

Now, if you did get to drive a new GT500... I am one green with envy pony lover!

Ok here you go...I will upload a recent pic of my car. I have more (interior, top off, etc) if you want to see more.

I posted about my Hertz GT rental on Tugbbs and you can see a pic of me in front of the car. Just search Hertz rental on TUG. Someone else started the thread (while I was in LA renting the car).

                          That is nice looking car...

Ours is what I would call a 100-footer... This is the day we brought her home:

She needs new paint and a top but she is pretty much rust free...

I see you used the same type of Uhaul trailer I used to tow my car from Florida to Texas for the NCRS national last month.

If you have ORIGINAL paint, I would not repaint your car as it would be consider a "survivor" and worth MORE money if you did not paint it.

Here is a pic of my interior....enjoy

As I said, "I am trying to get into Barrett-Jackson Auction in January in Arizona." They had 5,000 cars fill out an application, but they will choose the best 1-2,000 cars. I hope they choose my car as almost all 1967 corvettes from last year (427/435hp) sold for over $200,000 each and mine is Top Flight certified, but it only a 427/390hp.

Try aviation fuel. It is still leaded. There is a gas station a couple of miles from me that has an avgas pump you can drive right up to and pump it into your car. I put a tank of avgas in my MGB from time to time.

You can also find real lead additives at classic car shows. I have some bottles of that in my garage as well. There is also a lead replacement additive that fullfills much but not all of the function of lead.

The regular gas in Greenville, N.C. is now $1.91 a gallon.
