I remember every one of them. In fact, it you just cued up the first two bars, I could have named both the song and the group (and I would have even spelled "Cyrkle" correctly).

The Yardbirds were one of my favorite groups of that era, up there with The Zombies, The Animals (before they became Eric Burdon and The Animals), the Stones, and the Beach Boys.

One obscure old group I was a fan of was the Innocents, who started out as a back up band for Kathy Young. Anyone remember them (or her)?

I remember all of these from when I was a kid........they were on the "oldies" station.

But don't feel too bad, the stuff I listened to in high school is now on the oldies station.

All three. Gives Ashley Simpsons lip sync a good name don't they? The late 60's early 70's had some of the greatest music ever made. It galls me that the radio stations of today concentrate on 25-30 songs of one period or another. They could play the thousands of songs for 50's to disco and now, never repeat one in a week and you'd hear great stuff. We used to have a station in Rochester with a female program director that did just that for about three years. I heard stuff I hadn't heard in a decade, "found" new groups I loved (such as The Smithereens who had been MTV & college station darlings after my college years), Melissa Etheridge, small but great artists like Tasmin Archer (Sleeping Satellite), my first taste of Seal - the list went on and on. After three years she was removed, corporate took over and within the next 18 months the station was gone and changed to C&W. Since then it's been at least 7 formats and never has any success. The closest we have now is the Top Tracks, Big Tracks and Deep Tracks on XM but even those concentrate too much on the overplayed hits rather than a appreciation of all years of great rock n' roll. I miss WMAX in Rochester. Chicago has a station thats similar (sorry, don't recall the call letters although I had a sticker from it on my old car) that I enjoy everytime I'm in that city.

I think many of us who saw the birth of Rock & Roll have more reverence for it. I still like some of todays music, but these occurances are getting less frequent every year.

A bit of trivia.

One of the "one-hit" bands from the mid-1960's was The Castaways, with the song "Liar, Liar". They were a Minneapolis area garage band.

When Liar, Liar made the charts, the drummer, Denny Craswell, sat two desks behind my sister in English class.

Apparently the band has reformed and the members are still living off that hit. Looking at a more recent photo, below, shows how silly it can be to try to keep the past alive.

Is it on the "Soma" label?

Soma is Amos spelled backward. Amos was the first name of the guy was the only record producer in the Minneapolis area. Virtually every band that came out of Minnesota released on the Soma label.

That includes The Trashmen, recorders of the immortal and unforgettable Surfin' Bird. Despite the novelty of Surfin' Bird, The Trashmen were actually a very fine "surf band", despite being located about as far away from the surf as a North American band could possibly be.
