This is the reason I don't buy Halloween Candy, early!

I never buy my Halloween candy early, for fear of eating it before the big day even gets here.

Well, last night My DH and I were in Hess, and they are having a sale on Halloween candy. M&M's Reese's Peanut Butter cups, Snickers, etc. $2.99 bags on sale for 99 cents. So, we buy a bunch of bags.

This morning, my DH left early to go play golf, and I have been on the computer all day. The bags of candy were on the table, so I figured I would have a piece. Of course, one by one I opened every variety, and am now looking at a pile of opened candy wrappers. I have eaten both breakfast and lunch, compliments of Hersey.

Sheesh, what is wrong with me. Now I have to run down to Hess, before my DH gets home, to replace all the opened bags. I guess I'll hide the ones that I opened, and pick on them, during the week.......

I did that with a Hot Loaf of Lard Bread that we bought on 101st ave in Ozone Park. IMO This is the best and most expensive Meat bread in NY. Me and my son started eating away as soon as we got in the car. By the time we got to Woodhaven Blvd which was only 3 blocks away the loaf was gone. I turned around and bought 2 more.

Now as far as the candy goes. It seems that everyone in my house has there own little hiding spot. I sometimes hide it so well that I forget where I hide it and find it months later. I just found one 2 months ago hidden in the fridge mixed in with those condiments packages. Yep it was still good.

If DH never goes into the freezer, your problem is half-solved. The opened bags get secreted away in the freezer, to be enjoyed and savored over time. They're better frozen anyway, especially the PB cups.

Disclaimer: This is written by a DH who occasionally stumbles upon DW's freezer stashes. The question I face is how many I can remove without her catching on that I've found the stash.

Where did you buy it? I went to Saint Mary Gate of Heaven, and I use to shop on 101st Ave., all the time. Back then, they had some of the best Italian shops around. I don't know if that is still the case, today. Although my mom still lives in the area, I don't often shop there, these days.

I'm willing to make a stop for a great loaf of Lard Bread, though. It's one of my favorites.

As far as hiding the candy, what you say is true............. I know that my husband does the same thing. I have often seen candy wrappers in the garbage, but never seem to see the candy, before hand.

That reminds me.......I have to through the wrappers in the outside garbage can..........

I finally found a way to NOT eat the Halloween candy! I buy something I do NOT like and would NOT eat....Reese's peanut butter cups... What a way to ruin GOOD chocolate. But, DH loves them and anything else so I do have to hide them. But since we moved 'out in the country' we have never in 5 years had one kid come to our house, so I don't have to buy anything. But, not to worry, DH buys his own 'snacks' and tries to hide them from me so I won't chastise him for eating the wrong stuff, i.e. too much sugar & salt.

There bread is also served in one of the most famous mobster hang out restaurants, The Parkside in Corona on 108st. They also have Pasta and Ravioli but I recommend the Pasta Store that is a block away going towards Woodhaven on the same side and across from the Met food.

What is Lard Bread? Lard, meaning fat??

Lard Bread is also called Prosciutto Bread. It's absolutely delicious. There are small pieces of meat (most times prosciutto, but sometimes, salami) and, cheese in the bread........Yummy, you must try some, sometime. They sell it here at Cardinelli, but, I doubt that it is as good as the one Frank is talking about.

Exactly, me too. I also try not to buy it too early....It was that damn sale.

Then after eating candy all day, my DH surprised me with coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts.......

I just grabbed a Halloween Milky Way before sitting down at the computer. Well what do you know, I come across this thread! Just yesterday I bought three variety bags from BJ's (120 pieces each). One of the bags now has significantly less than 120 pieces. Those bite size bars are trouble!

WOW! And I thought I was the only one tearing threw the Halloween candy! At the rate I'm tearing it up I'm waiting til about 2 days before Halloween to restock...... and even then it could be trouble ....
