  • Almost got dumped.

As a lot of you know; I've been working with a horse that a good friend of mine bought for her novice boyfriend. He's come pretty far in the last 4 months. The horse not the boyfriend. Has learned some nice manners. His jog and trot are nice and balanced. His canter has gotten better, more comfortable but we still have a ways to go.

He's a big grey horse. <reminder to self to take picture of horse>. About 16 hands and built like a brick umm you know.

He's big and strong and he knows it. and he's also a pretty smart animal. He tries to intimidate you but he backs down pretty fast when he sees he isn't getting anywhere with me.

Anyway, he has taken to busting thru turnout fences. He puts his front hooves on the rail and then leans his weight on the rail until it gives. Then neatly steps over the now broken fence to eat grass.

He was going thru about 4 fences a week. So D is looking into electric fences. In the meanwhile the horse isn't getting turned out at all.

I have had no time for myself forget horse training the last week or so and I felt bad for him. So K and I met today and went out on the trails. We start to canter and this bugger pops off 4 pretty big crowhops in a row. All 4 feet off the ground at once and looking like an upside down letter "U".

Thank goodness I was riding western today! My butt was about a third of the way out of the saddle. I pushed myself back and into the seat and pulled up his head. It's probably been about 7 or so years since I've come off and I don't bounce like I used to. Funny; the thought flew through my mind: "If he dumps me he'll remember that he CAN." <Wierd stuff crosses your mind when your 5 feet off the ground and in danger of getting there faster than you'd like to. >

Can't be mad at him as he's been locked up and he was just excited to be out. I had TOLD K months ago that this one would be a handful in the winter...so if I want to stay in one piece I better find some time to get this fella some exercise.
AND I better warn D that he does buck and pretty wicked ones so that she doesn't just put her BF on him some afternoon.

There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
