  • DH wants a Palm Treo

DH has a BIG bday coming up, and for his 'special' gift (not my idea, for sure) he would like a Palm Treo 700. We aren't eligible for any Verizon 'deals' and they want over $600 for the thing. I checked on Froogle and it looks like I can get one for about half that, or maybe $350, still more than I was hoping to spend.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them. He is stuck on this model. Even any 'trusted seller' recommendations, as well as anything important I need to know before buying. I am aware that this will increase our cellular bill substantially

I thought you meant palm tree and just misspelled it.

Palm has 2 Treo 700 models out there now with different operating systems. The 700p and the 700wx , I recommend the windows based one.

Is the 750 coming out yet?

I am not a technology kind of guy but if your hubby needs or likes to get his e-mail and keep on top of what is going on the new smart phones are just awsome. Mine is much more of a phone then a pocket PC / Blackberry system but getting e-mail all the time is down right addictive.

I also love being able to get on the internet anywhere and anytime...

Just look at those data plans as my phone is $30/month for the phone and another $50 for the unlimited data plan. With taxes my phone bill is about $90/month now making it an expensive toy but a deductable one for me!

BTW Samsung just released the ip830 smart phone. It works like a Treo on a windows based OP but it also works all over internationally and in Europe as well. I would like to get this phone when the price drops. Right now it is $600 but in 6 months it might be half of that. I would like it for my trip to Europe next Aug.

You want the Treo "P" (all due respect to Frank)

That is the 700P - P=Palm OS. It has a longer battery life, more usable memory and does more (not less) than the Windows version does. MOST importantly it has the extremely bright and clear 320 pixel screen vs a 240 on the W models. THAT is a critical difference both in brightness and clarity that no amount of features - if there were any missing from the Palm - cannot make up. The Palm version is also much faster response as the OS overhead is much lower. Both are good - the 700P is better than the W IMO. I've used both extensively. The Palm version wins hands down. It's how a PDA should work (fast) with the added features of the phone/Internet.

DH did say "Palm," and he is a Palm enthusiast, so "P" it will be. He was playing with my cousin's last night and remarked on how clear the screen was in view of the negative reviews he'd read (which in retrospect must have been of the Windows version). Now how to go about buying it...

That sounds like a pretty reasonable deal. Even on ebay, you're not going to get a much better deal. Here's what's there. http://cell-phones.search.ebay.com/p...QQsacatZ146487
