  • I hate it when I can't find something.

Don't you just hate it when you can't find something!!!???

Several years ago those in the community dock decided to add a swim deck. Jenny and I always questioned whether everyone paid for it and whether the expense was divided up properly.

This morning while mowing the yard I realized how I could figure out if it had been. Now that we know more about docks, about how much swim decks cost, all I need to do is see how much we paid and see if that is 1/10th of what the total cost likely was. (One of our neighbors took care of all of this stuff and no one else ever got to see the details.)

That was almost 12 hours ago now and I have spent most of that time looking for how much we paid. A canceled check or a bank statement or a note, anything. I can't even find a record of when the swim deck was added.

I found the form we signed giving approval to add the swim deck, and it is not dated.

I believe I found a receipt or canceled check or satisfaction of mortgage, etc., for every other transaction in my life!!!! I even found an autographed picture of the Budweiser Bowling Team--Don Carter, Dick Weber, Ray Bluth, etc.

I found tons of stuff that is way passed time to be pitched. I am definitely my mother's son.

It will be in the last place you look.

    I hate that too.

I've spent hours this week looking for missing things. Found all but one and am not actively looking for that one.

I know how you feel, I have the same problem. It seems like when I need something, I can't find it, then after I rebuy it, within a couple of days or so, I find it. There needs to be a record keeping class 101 for important and not so important papers and information.

Doesn't always seem to be the item that you put it in a special place so you wouldn't forget where it was; and then you forget where the special place was.

Years later as you are looking for something else, you re-locate the special place and find the item and think, "That's right, I put it here so I wouldn't forget where it was."

Some years ago we decided to stop looking for stuff that was more than 7 years old and started concentrating on organizing the rest. Anything we run across, more than 7 years old, gets placed in scrapbooks or goes to the scrap heap. Now that we have retired, we will most likely toss all but what matters for tax purposes.

We are nearing age 70 and most stuff from when we were younger then 62 doesn't amount to squat. Like who didn't yet pay us what they were supposed to. We figured if we haven't been paid by the time we die, the Almighty would take care of it.

We have gotten rid of files and lots of boxed forms and papers. They are gone. We couldn’t look if we wanted to. WHAT RELIEF.

I've even found time to do some landscape work and take "Trip West".

Good luck on your new project(s).

My wife loves it when I loose something and turn the house upside down looking for it. i get like a raving maniac but at least those papers or items that are sitting around for years gets thrown out.

Oh, I am so glad to hear someone else has 'that special place' and can't find it. I was really beginning to think I had Al's heimer's starting to creep in. And, yes, it will turn up later, when I won't care...or our kids will wonder 'what in heavens name did Mom and Dad save this junk for?'

The problem is in determining what is going to be important in the future, so we tend to overkeep. If someone would just tell us the things we are going to need in ten years, we could just keep them.

I woke up at 1:00 AM and had to start looking again.

Tomorrow I can call the Corps and find hopefully find out when the swimdeck was added. That will be a start.

The other day I hosted a golf tournament - walked into the locker room with my sunglasses and then couldn't find them. I went over and over every place I had been and then I passed by a mirror. They were on top of my hat!!!!!! AAAAAAH!!! Set the tone for the day. I'm always putting things in special places - now where IS that glue I need? Linda

The first thing to go is your mind and I can’t remember what the second thing is.

I've spent most of today looking. I went through four bank accounts. We're thinking it was 1999, 2000, or 2001.

Another problem is that I can't ask the person that keeps the dock books.

I found every other payment we've made on the dock.

Speaking of which, it's a pretty day so we're going for a boat ride.
