  • You too can live here in CT !

Martha Stewart has her house in Westport up for sale, 3br.,2ba on 4.3 acres with an asking price of $ 8,995,000. I wonder if she's planning moving year round to her house in N.E harbor, Maine ?

Vin Baker (basketball player) has his house in Durham for sale, 7br.,6ba. on 11 acres with a basketball court in the guest house for only $ 5,995,000.

Closer to me (20 miles more or less) Ivan Lendl has his house in Goshen(just over the border from Litchfield)-10br.,12ba. on 450 acres-with an indoor and outdoor pool, guest house, barn, basketball gym, workout room and a golf driving range. Asking price $ 25,000,000.

I'll take 2: Vin Baker's and Ivan Lendl's homes, $30,995,000 total. Thank you.

We were just in CT. Actually, I was surprised how affordable some places can be there.

I have it on good authority that Martha might be willing to negotiate Our friends in Westport live two fences over from her (estate) and the husband is a real estate agent there. They live in what he affectionately calls a "million dollar teardown", meaning the neighbors would love to buy up their gorgeous lot and bulldoze the house for a stable or some such.

We stopped at the Vanilla Bean Cafe in Pomfret and talked to some locals and found a wide range of blue collar and white collar folks, all pretty friendly, for CT anyway ...

I'm helping my friend's wife manage her miles/points portfolio, so hope to get back there again soon and enjoy some snow (unlike my wife, I love cold weather). BTW, White Plains (HPN) is an excellent little airport with great access to both NYC and Connecticut.

There, is that enough of a plug?

I am sure they will take TS4MS's point. We just need to find a good conversion table.

Pat, my son's former teacher lives next door, but her husband is also in real estate so I'm wondering if these are the same people you know?

Westport is interesting...billion dollar houses and two family houses all in one town....

You can't see her house at all from the road as there is an extremely tall wall around the whole thing.

If you stand at Martha's gate (which one would just drive right by if not knowing what to look for) and look across the street and two lots back, you can see the the back of our friend's lot, which is densely wooded. Vinnie took me by there on my first trip, on the way to the MTA station (I was headed into NYC) so I could see what the big deal was all about . I had often heard him comment on the TV production equipment which used to park in and outside the compound, back when Martha was filming parts of her show there, and the resultant zoo. He said she hasn't been seen much lately, as she has other homes, one in NYC. Our last trip, he just mentioned it was for sale but did not mention the price. IIRC, he and his wife have lived there since the early 90's and his wife was who actually bought the house. He's a kept man, just like me

I was somewhat surprised how quickly Westport transforms when you turn off the commercial strip streets and drive through the neighborhoods. Our rental car had GPS so we wandered all over the place. Not much fall color left. Our friends wrote a couple days ago that a big storm came through and knocked down some trees and big limbs in the neighborhood, but fortunately none hit their house or cars.

Vinnie was telling me that many of his neighbors are young folks working in the financial industry in NYC. New "McMansions" are popping up all the time and I saw two while we were there.

Pat, let us know if you come back this way again and maybe we can meet up. I live in the northwest hills where we have more cows than people and the real estate prices are most often more reasonable. The state has a great deal of movie stars and former stars living here. Ken Howard used to live in nearby Falls Village, Michael Fox in Cornwall or Cornwall Bridge and the late Robert Montgomery right here in town (we often ushered together at church). So, just about anywhere you go you will find a few very expensive homes.
