  • Monthly Utility Bill

We have this discussion periodically and it is always interesting because of how much the figures vary.

We are all-electric, with a heat pump (not ground source), and we have 3000 square feet. Most of our utilities are for the half of that on the upper level.

    Our current bill is $98.24.

My electric bill last month was about $620.00...ouch!

I live in South Florida and have 3 A/C units, electric water heater, lots of recesed lights, and about 5800 Sq ft under air.

I'm all electric including the water well pump and conserve as much as possible. Last month was $ 90.83 (I was gone on vacation for a week tho). Our bills give you this year and last year's usage and I think I was off a week last year too, This year's usage was about 86% of last year's. Maybe the day or so we were out of power was on last month's bill tho.

New Jersey gas and electric - $185 - October and November are typically the lowest priced months of the year.

North central FL here...just got our bill today: $126, down about $50 from last month...less AC, no doubt.

I just paid our electric bill - $424 for 2 months for electric only, no heat, no hot water. Better than the $700 I got earlier this year! Our last oil delivery was $2.69/gal and almost 200 gallons. If the weather stays warm it will last awhile. Our water is about $15/month.

Our utility bill from mid-Sept to mid-Oct was $150.
$70 for the gas and $80 for electric.
Provider is Orange & Rockland for both.

This bill cycle is generally one of the lowest bills of the year, with May a close runner up.

If that bill came to us, it would be taking 1/5 of our income! I couldn't bear to think of a bill like that!

Our electric last month was around $40. We use every method we can think of to conserve, and are hoping to move toward solar in the near future. We use CFL's in most lights, keep lights off in rooms we are not using, have just replaced our energy guzzling appliances in the kitchen with energy star, and have several skylights which help let light in, keeping natural light as our preferred lighting source for most of the home.

Our gas bill was $28 last month, and $42 this month as we use gas hot water heater which also supplies our hydronic heat unit.

Edit to add: our sf is 1985.

We are so lucky to live in southern California as our A/C bill is very low because we do not need to use it often. We live less than two miles of the coast. We mainly use it to get rid of the extra humidity plus we live in a smaller than average house in the USA of only 1650 sq. ft. We didn't want a two story house for the two of us.

We used to have a koi pond that was more expensive than a swimming pool and all our electricity together, when we compared our bill with our neighbors, who have a pool. Our last koi died when he was 28 years old and we didn't replace them because they are harder to take care of yet than dogs and cats, when you want to travel.

Our heating bill is low too unless we turn on the gas fireplace every night which we do not do. We pay high taxes in California but we do not pay it in utilities in comparison to most other states.

I never see our bills because they are paid automatically but we try to conserve for the next generation, especially with water lately. I really feel guilty using more than I have to today. There will be wars over water and not over oil, I hate to say.

                        Income?

                        What's that?

Just got our electric bill, $65 and change. It's been cold for this season here in the ATL. We've less than 2K sq ft of home, but we have vaulted ceilings in a few rooms, so they're hard to control temps.

These sure are more reasonable than the prognostications of 6 months ago.
