New releases are 3 day check-outs while older titles are 21 days (which I use to catch up on series like Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc). I don't even mind paying the fee when I'm late because I'm saving so much money.
I Learned something new. I never knew they gave out free DVD's.

Depends on where you live, but I think most big city libraries have more than you'd think. We also have an ordering system so when I decided to watch the old series "Soap" I found they only had first season so I put in a request for them to buy the rest of it, and they did!! I was also placed first in line to receive it. YIPPEE!!

We may not have the best library system, but I really like what we have. The "you have items coming due in 3 days" email is a feature I LOVE (and would have amassed many more overdue fines without it).

Glad I could tell you something you didn't know = just returning the favor!

My younger dd is attending a boarding school in a rural area of PA. She asked for Netflix or BB and we chose BB. A couple of reasons, one being what we'd heard about the problems folks were having with Netflix, and the other being the free rental coupons that we could use. She's had the service for a few months now and she hasn't complained.

          Hi all,

We've been comparing prices and services of Netflix and Blockbuster. Blockbuster is in the lead as it has some extra benefits. One is the free movie with the instore return. I will go to the store to ask some questions. Our "local" store is almost twenty miles away so I won't just be stopping by.

In the meantime, my first question is......if you pick up a free movie for returning the online rental to the store, can you return the free movie by mail? I'm guessing that it is just a free low end rental that has to be returned in person or to the drop box.

This membership is to be a Christmas gift. I really want to get it right.

          Thanks,

          Kathleen

The free movie you get at the store has to be returned at the store. It can be any movie including new releases.

After being with BB for about 2 weeks now this is my comparison.

Customer service is much better with BB since there is a phone # you can call.

Turn around time even though I am returning at the store might be better with Netflix. But with the free rental in the store from BB you can not beat that deal.
Netflix for the most part got the movie out the same day they receive it. BB seems to be slower but as I said because of the free in store rental BB wins.
Also I called to complain about the slower turn around time. BB sent me 3 free in store coupons which I am not even sure I can use for the delay.
If I had to choose now I would take BB for as long as they give out the free in-store rentals. If that should stop. I will go back to Netflix.

BTW I have a feeling that because of this new BB deal that Netflix might have to drop there prices in order to keep there customers.

I just went to www.redbox.com to check them out since I never heard from them. It turns out that I had seen there stand in the Shop and Stop by my house. Not sure if you are getting a better deal or not. $1 per day adds up to $30 a month if you keep a movie out and then re rent again. With the other plans it's just $10 or $15 and you can have 2-3 movies out at a time.

I love getting movies by mail and belong to Netflix. Getting them from the brick/mortar Blockbuster store did not work because we always kept them extra days. I have not done BB online and although the free coupon is a nice incentive I do not want the hassle of going to the store. That's why I joined Netflix which was prior to BB having an online site. No more calls to BB on Tuesdays to please save a movie for me. I occasionally stopped at Hollywood Video because you could keep a movie for 5 days rather than BB 2 days.

I do get just released movies from Netflix but they do play games with mailing new ones out. I have tested mailings in a few ways. If I return mail 2 movies together one is recorded as received a day or two later but the other may not show up for a whole week which prolongs the process. We only watch movies on weekends as we work long hours. This has happened on more than one occasion so I know that they are intentionally doing this. It used to be return mail day 1,Netflix receives it Day 2,you get the new movie day 4. I do like being able to update my Queque with movies that will be released in the future.

Everyone that I've talked to here in CA uses Netflix. I haven't heard about BB online so that's good to know. I haven't tried it yet because I seem to tape so many things to watch that I haven't had time. I also like to go to some movie in the theater -- matinées so they are cheaper!

Thanks. Vote them in. Somehow, I don't think it as on-line company since I just go there and see if there is any avail. I want see.

With 2 Kids, I think we end up watch no more than 4 movies per month. I don't know with Woot, how many you end up watch? On the other hand, I remember when I was student we used to watch 5+ movies per night before the final , so maybe you did watch a lot when you try to push those woots through.
