  • Which do you like better, Netflix or Blockbuster online

I was with Netflix for 3 months and just canceled them for poor service. Is blockbuster the same better or worse?

When I first joined Netflix they sent out the movie the same day that I joined. Today I joined Blockbuster early this morning and no movie has shipped yet. So far thats the first strike for BB.

Have you had experiance with both?

Frank....We just canceled Netflix, due to the poor condition of their DVDs. We got really tired of getting DVDs that skipped. Also, sometimes, the wait was too long to get what we wanted. My DH doesn't have a lot of patience, when it comes to waiting for a movie that he wants to see.

We are thinking about joining BB, but haven't done so yet.

If you want to try Blockbuster for 1 free month and get 3 movies at a time plus if you return them to the store you get a free coupon for each movie you return at the store. Use coupon code 36003. Just put check in the box for the code and use that code and your good to go. After 1 month if you do not change your plan you will be charged $17.99

We tried both and gave up due to skipping DVDs. Now we've got Tivo and On Demand through Cablevision; between the two it's more than enough to keep us busy most of the time.

We had lots of problems with skipping DVD's on our Sony DVD player. I then tried them on my sons PlayStation and they work. We have put the old DVD player in the bedroom and bought a new one (Sony) with a VCR in it also and it works great. We dont have the skips. I think some players are more sensitive than others.
We love Netflix we get to watch lots of movies for $ 20 per month.

I found a long time ago that most of the time, if I just rinse the DVD in clear water and dry with a hand towel, I have no problems.

I'll vote for Blockbuster. The extra movies you can get from the local store for free, make it a better deal.

I have been with Blockbuster.com for one year and LOVE it...I just clean the CD before use. I also bought a new SONY DVD player that has anti-skip features and have not had a problem. I think BB rules, especially with their new return ti to the store feature.

We recently joined Blockbuster and so far, so good. The "Total Access" program is great because since we can only watch about 1 DVD per wk., the lowest cost plan ($5.99) provides at least 4 rentals per/mo., more if coupons are used too. Although, I need a little more time to evaluate the quality of discs compared to Netflix.

NetFlix rentals were a headache. As mentioned by others, skipping and stopping during play was a problem with most discs. I contacted service and they apologized, reduced monthly charge but same quality problems. I could not believe the condition of some of the discs we received. I usually clean the discs but they were very scratched up. Some of the discs were just released films! It was frustrating and not worth the price. PO'd they were mailing them out and not removing from circulation.
NetFlix has a great website and huge library but BB is not too shabby and is great because you can return the just watched disc to their store drop-boxes, a U.S. mailbox, or return in-store and get another free rental.

This new total access plan can add a lot of value to Blockbuster assuming you live near a store. We tried it this week, we returned both of the movies we normally mail back to the store, my kids then picked out 2 of the shelf for them, and my next 2 from the queu were mailed, seems like a great deal. We basically had 2 extra movies out. I have very rarely had trouble with skipping movies from blockbuster, it was slightly more common with netflix.

Frank, Thanks.....We are going to give them a try. We live very close to BB, I pass the store at least once a day. The in-store return feature, is a nice incentive.

We joined BB about 3 weeks ago. Great to return movies to the store! However, we keep getting movies way down our list because the top ones, even though "available", aren't available at our closest mail center. Getting kinda disgusted with the fact we aren't getting out top picks, but getting like # 20-25 on the list. Still waiting to see how it pans out.

I have used Netflix for a couple of periods in the past and have been generally happy with them. We are close to Denver (which is one of their mailing centers), and most times I had a two day turnaround (mail it on Monday, get a new DVD on Wednesday). We did have some issues w/ damaged disks, but the DVD player makes a big difference on how well it can handle less-than-perfect discs.

Also, I have read that with Netflix, the availability of high demand DVDs will be different, based upon your rental history. If you end up renting a lot of DVDs each month (turning them around fast), then you are placed on a lower priority for getting the high demand DVDs, as compared to someone who doesn't rent many DVDs in a month.

This sounds like what was happening to me. I was turning them in fast but not getting them back just as fast.

I did have a couple of DVDs that gave me trouble. I cleaned them and they then played well. Sometimes I did have to fast foward right past the bad spots or it would freeze up.

Neither, and no rubber ducky. I use our public library. They keep rather current, it's FREE, I can put in a request and be emailed when it comes in (and continually check where in line I am), and best of all, we have a branch at work so the convenience cannot be beat. New releases are 3 day check-outs while older titles are 21 days (which I use to catch up on series like Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc). I don't even mind paying the fee when I'm late because I'm saving so much money.
