  • It's Dec. 10, and I've done nothing for Christmas

I don't know what is going on with me this year, but it's Dec. 10, and I have yet to purchase one Christmas gift. We brought up some boxes of decorations a few weeks ago, but we haven't really done any decorating yet.

Normally, we start to decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and by this point we are done. I usually have the majority of my shopping done at this point, too.

I really have to get going with this......I don't want to be shopping in the malls on Dec. 24.

I'm right with you, Angela. I was just saying the same thing to DH this morning. We've got to get cracking!

You're not alone. I'm having a hard time getting into it this year. I usually don't start until around the 10th though because I have one dd b'day on 11-27 and the other's on 12-8. I'm just getting over birthday mode.

        Angela,

It's time to bust out "A Christmas Story".

I want a Red Ryder 200-shot carbine action air rifle BB gun with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time.

That will get you into the Christmas Spirit.

I haven't done a thing either. Though I'm starting to get into the spirit a little; DS14 had a bunch of friends sleep over last night; they went out for a walk very late and this morning I noticed that several neighbors' lite-up reindeer have been moved into some very naughty positions....

We have wreaths and lights up and a few gifts bought but that's all. The tree's still in the attic with most of the decorations.

I am beginning to sense that our society may be moving away from the "ideal" holiday season promoted by advertisers in which one totally redecorates the house right after Thanksgiving and showers everyone one knows with expensive gifts for Christmas or Hannukah.

I LOVE being in the mall on Christmas Eve! I'm a last-minuter usually, but since I began my current job and have 40% off day in early November, I'm unfortunately forced to do shopping early. I still like to get out there in the fray on Christmas Eve as there's an energy I don't find any other time. Sure, some of it is desperation on the part of those who have no idea what to get anyone, and some of it is other people like me, smugly smiling cuz we don't have to buy another thing, but know we will to make the trip not a total waste. Usually it's stocking stuffers.

My brother always does his shopping Christmas Eve and usually knows what he's getting people. Perhaps this year we can make the trip together, split up at the entrance and he can call me when he's done. We don't get to spend too many holidays together anymore, and have NEVER gone Christmas Shopping together, but, Things Change.

At home, hubby confided that he's just not into it yet. It usually takes a few weeks into December for him, so I'm ok with that. What I'm not ok with is that he always wants a list from me. I've made my displeasure known in the past, but this time, I flat-out refused. We've been married 15 years - if he doesn't know me by now, why are we even together?? "You might get stuff you don't want and don't need." Uh huh, but why should I have to tell you what to get me? Why can't you put forth a bit of effort? Why can't I get surprises like everyone else?

Anyone else with that problem? Am I being unreasonable? Should I have to provide a list of what I want every year like a child listing the toys she wants? I may be pushing it too far this year, as I don't plan to give any hints, either. I think it's time he flew solo on this.

Since we won't be home for CHristmas, I doubt we will put up the tree or do any decorating. Not worth the effort. We don't have kids, so don't need to keep up tradition for anyone.

                  .
Sorry, but I long ago took the pressure off DH and started telling him what I wanted. We are both much happier this way.

I'm further ahead then normal. Bought a tree yesterday and have most of the gifts ordered. Last year I never even finished decorating the tree. My DD moved to England the week before Christmas last year, 2 days after she graduated from college. I was depressed.

This year my son's girlfriend and her 12 year old son live with us so the house is alive again. I'm really in the mood.

Lists - I hate it when people don't/won't give me lists. Even when I know someone inside out, I still have a hard time coming up with gifts. People's taste change and some people, like my sister, are very picky!

we will be taking advantage of the warm weather to finish outside. Hopefully go get our tree too. That will get me in the mood to do the inside decorating.

I haven't many gifts to get. We cut back exchanging when I got laid off. My nieces and nephews are at the age where cash is best.

I got REAL lucky. One of the girls I work with managed to get me the Nintendo WII system ( her sister works for Nintendo ). So the one really tough to get gift is done for DS.

I too believe in letting people know what I want. Less stressfull.Unfortunately my DH nevers says what he wants and I have no clue what to get him this year.

I also don't have to cook this Christmas! My MIL is having difficulty getting around and would prefer we all come there. So just double batch of appetizers and I'm DONE!

                        That is too funny!

I am doing ok in the gift department, but am really behind in decorating. I have had a naked tree sitting in the living room for a week now. Every once in awhile someone walks past and puts a ball on it. It's pitiful...

Hmm sounds like this might be fun now trying to cram it all in within the last two weeks. I remember one year that I left all my shopping for the end and it was fun fighting the lines and crowds in the malls. Now I just do it online and I start months before.

I have noticed every year I get a little more behind on the whole Christmas thing. DH and I both just fine the whole thing kind of depressing anymore. Our kids are both grown and we don't have a clue what to buy them. They just want $$, which is easy, of course. But I still feel I have to have some kind of surprise present under the tree.

My father died unexpectedly on Tuesday, and the funeral and everything is finally over. But I find that has just emotionally drained me to the point that I don't even CARE if we don't have a tree or decorations.

I just might take your suggestion and watch "A Christmas Story". That movie always makes me feel good. Maybe I'll pop open some wine, and make some fun food.

I have to ask, why do you want a BB gun? What will you do with it?
