This is a fun quiz that is supposed to identify your American accent. Mine was identified as "The West", which is (according to the site) "...the lowest common denominator of American speech.

I don't need the quiz to know that mine is New Yawk. And I've worked hard to tone it down...

My friend who's studying to be a speech therapist sent this one to me. It identified me as being from New York. But it identified my friend as being from Philadelphia, which I thought was pretty impressive, Philly as distinct from New York.

It pegged me as being from Philly or at least somewhere nearby. I'm from New Orleans. I have had a lot of people ask me if I was a New Yorker though.

Like I didn't already know, I'm an Alabama boy. The SOUTH. I used to travel to upstate NY for training, the waitresses love to hear me ask for a BUUUUUD Light.

Mine was the same and was right on. Interestingly enough my son took the test and also was Inland North even though he has lived in CA all his life.

I'm a lifelong Florida native, but I was designated "Midland." To be fair though, it did say that that just means I have no real accent and it further said I could be from Florida, among other places. Not too, too far wrong, and a fun quiz.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I was surprised that the test didn't ask about pronunciations of the word "root" - if "root" is pronounced the same way when referring to a tree root as it is when sports fans root for their team.

I pronounce those the same way, but my siblings pronounce them differently.

This was a fun quiz. My result was accurate: The West. Although I grew up in Virginia, I have lived in Colorado, Wyoming, and now Utah. I have spent a lot of time in the west...and apparently...I sound like it.
