    • What a let down after the great show last week and all the anticipation - makes you wish you hadn't watched it at all. We are sooo disappointed with that ending (if you can even call it that...) - I guess they really wanted to keep their options open

Exactly...yet it is also open for interpretation. The show is way smarter than I am and there is lots of foreshadowing and innuendo....you really have to pay close attention. This doesn't work for my DH who just wants to know who gets whacked. LOL. I think the ultimate message is Life goes on...no matter who you are...that family and simple things are utmost important. Look at Uncle Jun....Tony stood there explaining to him how "important" he once was..that he ran NJ.he smiled a bit and said I did or that's nice or something to that effect...but in the end...did it matter how important he was? ....no he was watching birds and eating applesauce like the next person.

You don't get a clean ending but life is not clean...certainly not a mobsters life. The simple things are important...like timesharing and seeing the world with your family

        • What Do You Think?

I think that the meaning of the ending was:

Life goes on for the Sopranos and We got Whacked.

            • I heard on CNN there were actually 3 different endings filmed for the series, just to keep people guessing. I believe they said they were 1) Tony goes into witness protection, 2) Both Tony and Phil get whacked. AJ is the one who whacks Phil, 3) Tony commits suicide.

I think they just couldn't decide which one to use, so they didn't use any.

Oh and they also mentioned something about a movie as well. Although, I'd be surprised if James Gandolfini does it, so it may be a prequel with a different actor playing a younger Tony.

              • Ok, after my last rabid post , I stayed up and watched it a couple more times and all the clues are there...

                MAJOR SPOILER********************

You know they have a crew member who has flipped and that indictments are 90%. Paulie is concerned about the new responsibilities as he is getting older and isn't sure of how long he can do them, as if Tony may be gone for a period of time. The FBI guy thinks the hit on Phil may make sure they win this time. Meadow changed from med school to law because of watching her Dad being dragged out of the house and arrested "falsely?"...

Hit men come and do their business... The guy at the counter hangs around too long... he is a fed and moved to the bathroom to cover any back exits. The two guys at the front counter are to the assist the arresting officer. Tony's FBI friend beats Meadow to the door and that is why Tony's face doesn't light up when he sees Meadow. Meadow will once again see her father arrested and Tony will "be tested" as Phil even stated a few episodes back... none of Tony's crew have gone to jail and been tested.

Sure it is wide open from here... Does Tony beat the rap, does he do the time, or does he squeal and enter the witness protection program, but this is the end of this story and that would be the beginning of the next story.

The show walked into the middle of a much larger story but it started with the events that brought Tony to the head the family business and it ends with Tony loosing the family business... the story is rather complete...

A prequel would highlight the Apriles that ran the family prior to Tony and a sequel would be about the family that takes over after Tony...

If all of this is correct... I appreciate not having to end the show on Tony being dragged out of the restaurant...

Just as I appreciate the extra revenge on Phil with the car running over his head.. we didn't have to see it but anyone familiar with mob movies, doing damage that doesn't allow a "proper" viewing is a final insult.

All in all, upon review.... a decent ending...

                So long Tony...

                Pete

                • Bye. I heard what the ending would be a few days ago but didn't want to spill the beans. I think they had 5 options. I never saw even one episode.

                    • Tony might be dead

I just received this email not sure about if it could be true.

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      FW: last night Sopranos

this was on one of the hbo message boards...
                      interesting stuff:

Like everyone else, I thought my cable went
out at the worst possible moment, but know I think it was meant to
express Tony's death. The clip they played with Tony and Bobby on the
fishing boat last week when Bobby was talking about when it was your
time, you don't even hear or see it coming. Therefore, the sudden
blank screen was the sudden death of Tony seen through his eyes.

So here is what I found out. The guy at the
bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in
the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the
future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the
nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a
car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the
true fans who pay attention to detail.

So the point would have been that life
continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you
pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie
in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of
the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD
players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in
the train store and the brothas at the end were the ones who tried to
kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

                      Absolutely incredible!!!! There were three
people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just
ends. This was Chase's way of proving that he will not escape his
past. It will not go on forever despite that he would like it to
"don't stop". Not the fans!!! Tony would like it to keep going but
just as we have to say goodbye, so does he.

                      • Frank,

Actually this email has been debunked...

You can even do a search on "Sopranos e-mail debunked" and a number of them come up.

Some real basic stuff like the actor in the ice cream shop has never been on the Soprano's before, one of the two guys that tried to clip Tony died in the attempt, etc...

I kind of reinforce the version I said earlier with the idea that these guys dream about going down in a blaze of glory with the bullets flying, but some end up old, sick and alone and once the indictments start, even if you beat them, you are always being watched and can't openly run the family... think of Junior. Having to have meetings in doctors' offices. Tony is told straight out the indictments are coming, with his arrest at the ice cream shop... the reign of Tony Soprano ends... what happens to him afterwards in another story but he will never have the same power again.

                        Pete

                        • Sopranos memorabilia on sale starting today in Long Island City till Monday. I am not sure if it is at Silver cup Studios or not. I heard two items not for sale is Tony's Robe and the bowling ball bag that they put the head in. My wife said just get Carmella's ring.

If they are selling things off this might really be the end.
