Moldy Ham?

Country Ham and Kentucky

Hi! I am from Louisville Kentucky and I had no idea that the country ham's have mold on them. I will check with my mom. I have really not ever purchased a whole country ham, because they are quite expensive. I know when I have seen them wrapped and hanging in the store they sure smell nice, and I have considered it. But man if they have mold I am not sure I will like it.

Thanksgiving purchased a spiral ham from the new CostCo in Louisville, Ky and cooked it and took it to my sisters. Part of it had something majorly wrong with it, as it was mushy. I called is SPAM. I took it back and CostCo gave my money back.

If country ham is a Kentucky thing, I must be missing something.

Hello! WackyMother, Not sure if Melvin answered. But I will give you a stab. I did a visit to the timeshares near Mammoth Cave. It has been over 8 years so things propably have changed. The resort at that time seemed clean, but was very small. Did not seem to have a lot of ammenities. Of course the clean part you have to remember I was seeing the resort as a visitor and potential buyer. Also seemed like there was something tied into the resort like a gift shop/ its own cave (Diamond Cavern). The cave I remember was pretty neat, and of course is not called Mammoth Cave, but in same area, and most likely part of it. This Diamond Cavern as I recall was owned by the individuals that rant the gift shop and also seemed to be involved with the timeshare.

The timeshare resort was also connected to a campground membership. They have a place for RV's, and campers, and I believe also you could pitch a tent.

I am sorry but I did not pay a lot of attention to it. But it did seem quiet and somewhat close on the main road as I recall on the way to Mammoth Cave National Park. I live about 2 hours away so I usually just drive for the day to visit the Park. I have also just stayed a weekend in one of the WigWams they have there, it was really cheap, and kind of different.

RCI's website has about 4 reviews, that I suggest you read, they all seem to be favorable.

Sadly...

I have not visited the timeshare near Mammoth Cave. We are located in far, far western Kentucky, not far from the Mississippi River (West of the Tennessee River). I pass by the exit for Park City on my way to the state capitol, but haven't visited.
I did tour the cave 25 years ago, or so, but I am sure that was before the timeshare was built.

M. Henley is Melvin Henley of Kentucky? Hey, Mr. Henley, can you tell me about Diamond Caverns Resorts in Park City? I would like to take my family there to see the caves. I posted a question at TUG, but no one is familiar with the resort.

When I'm in Kentucky, I will be sure to eat some ham!

Hmmm, thanks for the recipe! I will give that a try this week. And I think I'll go pick up another ham, too.
