  • Digital camera fitted with GPS????

While on Trip West, I upgraded the hard drive in my laptop and wound up with photographs NOT in order.

The date and time got messed up by backups and reloading. I’m spending much time identifying locations. Water scenery and mountain views are particularly confusing. Which are Teton, Glacier, Hood, Baker, Olympic, Rainier. Which coastline, Washington or Oregon?

Just don't take such long trips and switch hard drives!!!

Does anyone know if there’s a digital camera fitted with GPS? Next time I do an extended cross country it would be handy if Location was part of Properties.

There have been a couple of attempts at this, but I don't know if any are still on the market. There is a GPS system that can be linked to some Olympus cameras (I think it's Olympus anyway). A search using "camera GPS" in Google brings back quite a number of hits.

      Thanks!

Sort of too late, but thought others might could use the idea as they travel.

I did a lot of logging, but was pretty skimpy.

The parks are very different, but I am finding out that shots of mountains can be very similar. (Hood and Rainier) - (Tetons and Baker, likewise.) Valleys, forests and waterways are really baffling.

My HP camera (I'm sure others can as well) can be set up to automatically record 5 seconds of audio after each picture is taken. You can just say a few words about the picture and it is recorded. The audio is integrated in the .jpg file as extension data, so it is always associated w/ the picture. I usually turn on that feature when on vacation and it has proven useful at times.

I had heard some rumblings a couple years back about camera manufactures looking into integrating GPS, but that hasn't seemed to take off yet -- probably due to cost, but who knows. I would think that the GPS feature would only work outdoors, as you usually can't get signal indoors.

Now, if it also had voice recognition... text printing, trip reports could be almost automatic.

I see GPS and view direction are available.
That fed to google Earth makes those pictures available.

If I had all that, you all could simply go to Earth and reinact the journey.
If I could afford all that, I wouldn't be tapping all this.

Thanks for your input. Now I know so much more.
