  • Bald Eagles

I was working near a window a couple of hours ago when three bald eagles swooped by really low. Two had white feathers and one did not. At least the two with white feathers landed in a tree, sitting together, a short distance away. Since they are normally solitary, I am assuming these to be mom, dad and a youngster.

The two white-feathered ones sat together for a long time and now only the larger of the two is there. It could be that the other moved to another tree and I just can't see it.

Anyway, this is a reason why we love it here, and why we tolerate some of the pot-bellied, red-faced, white-bearded, bald homo sapiens native to the area.

    Interesting, Jim.

While drifting down the Snake in Teton NP, we seen three. All were single.
I'll be including photos on picasa when Trip West Chapter Two is posted.
I think they are really neat and lead an interesting life style.

Watch to make certain no one interfers in any way with their life. Be certain their presence is known to proper agencies.

    Enjoy.

Yes they are beautiful birds. Jim, you are lucky to have the opportunity to see them so near.
Robert, will look for you pics.
We have a pair of bald eagles that live somewhere on one of the islands in the Hudson River near Cohoes, NY not too far from where I live. I go to photograph them often. Earlier this spring there were two adults and 3 immature ones. Not sure of the ages of the immature, probably not all the same year, as it takes about 4-5 years for them to get their white heads and tail feathers.

Occasionally through my office window I can see bald eagles circling over Lake Washington.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

        “You shouldn't wear that body.”

Occasionally we see an adult Eagle soaring overhead, and more than 'just occasionally' we get a young eagle swooping over our little lake looking for fish. At our DD lake in South Ft. Myers, they have had an Eagle come and sit almost outside their lanai. (And we get to watch their resident Osprey 'fish' in their lake almost every time we visit) Quite a sight when ever, or where ever you see them.

The State of Missouri is very aware. I think they know of every eagle in the state, both bald and the few golden eagles we have. Perhaps there is a check stations when they cross the state line.

They know how many mated/nesting ones there are and how many babies they have each year.

Even though we only get to see them one or two weeks a year, we miss the osprey, seagulls, egrets, dolphins, etc. the rest of the year, in between. This year I got some dolphins on our new Handycam. That's hard to do because it's a guessing game where they are going to surface.

Ken those may be the ones I see down my way during the winter.

I remember as a child the plight of the bald eagle and I am encouraged by it's comeback. I don't think I ever don't get a chill when I see one flying free in the skies. The first one I saw was over zephyr hills, fl but they are becoming a little more common here in the lower Hudson Valley.

Jim wouldn't it be cool if your pair decided you were the perfect neighbor for them? You'd have to share the fish in the lake but it's be a small price to pay.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
                    Would you be mine?
                    Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
                    Would you be mine?
                    Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
                    Would you be mine?
                    Could you be mine?
                    Won't you be my neighbor?
                    Won't you please,
                    Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?

The eagles were not there, but it was a beautiful, sunny winter day, 60 degrees.

So, Jenny, our deceased neighbor's significant other, and I took him out on the BTSRN, popped the cork on a bottle of Korbel he had given us, and scattered him in the lake off the bank below his house, where he had wanted to be.

He having been a member of the first group to pilot military helicopters, we then did a fly-by.

It was very nice, a great way to be sent off.

It's been awhile since I've had any bubbly, especially on an empty stomach, and when I got back to our dock with the boat I discovered that our lift had gotten a lot narrower.

                        That must have been something.

Too bad the eagles didn't soar for that.

The Ex SO just went home after we all had dinner. They are/were a healthy-eating SOCAL couple and weren't familiar with local food when they moved here in '94. She had never had biscuits and gravy, so tonight Jenny fixed pan-fried pork chops and biscuits and gravy.

Then the Ex SO told us that our neighbor would sneak out and have biscuits and gravy when she didn't know. So, unknowlingly, Jenny cooked a fitting tribute meal.

We have now introduced the Ex SO to Famous Daves BBQ ribs, Fried Shrimp and a pasta dish we make with the shrimp scampi at Red Lobster, Pizza Hut pizza, and biscuits and gravy. You should see her eat!!! It's like she has been missing all this good food for 65 years!!!
