I was watching one of the 'fly on the wall' programmes about LAX last night. One part was about an elderly lady who was being refused permission to fly because the airline wouldn't allow her oxygen bottle, but the doctor treating her wouldn't give the OK for her to travel without oxygen. This lady was travelling with just her grandson, who claimed to be 10 years old. In the wide shot the kid was totally unperturbed by what was going on. When they turned to him in closeup he was in tears claiming they had been looking forward to the trip "for months, since last week!?" (His words). Then when granny was being wheeled back out of the airport the kid was going on about "suing the ass off the airline", again his words.
Just a couple of thoughts on this.
1. Who leaves a 10 year old in charge of an obviously very frail adult.
2. When I was young the first words a child would be expected to say would be Mama or Dada. Has that changed to 'Sue!!!!' now??
