My wife wants to get a generator, but I'm resisting. In order to operate the household normally one would need 5-10 thousand watt output. My neighbor has one and he has to keep starting every few months to have it ready to run. When he failed to do that one year, it didn't start and he had to go out and borrow a generator for the duration of the outage. Here in the rural northwest hills we have only had 3 major power outages (2-1/2 days or more) in 29 years, so survival has been fairly easy. It is a pain being without water, but it does give us a reason to go to McDonalds.

I got up at 5:30 awaiting the welcomed 2 hr delay, but alas no such luck. It was icy driving in to school. My son got the 2 hr. delay. Now it is raining but the roads are so wet I'm afraid when the temp goes down later we are in for really icy roads. Our power was out this morning, but that's because a car accident up the road a couple of miles caused some power lines to go down.
I am just thankful I don't live in Oswego where 2 more feet were expected to add to the 11 feet of snow already on the ground!

We lose power constantly...the last time our pipes ended up bursting and we had thousands of dollars in damage.

I just looked into getting a generator, but it costs about $8,000. Not sure that is a wise investment when we already have two cars with 110,000 and 130,000 miles on each, as well as a living room that hasn't had any furniture in it for eleven years.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything stays on through this storm!

Driving is horrible in Queens. If you do not have a 4 wheel drive car stay home. I had to go swap my wife's car just now because she did not feel safe in the car so she took my truck. For a first storm it certainly made you pay for the nice weather we had. Good thing we are in the middle of February and there is only a month left of this.

What made maters worse was not having Internet.

So much for having no snowboard gear in the house. Much to my chagrin, DS15 managed to borrow a snowboard and boots from his boss and is now trespassing at the nearby private golfcourse with two friends and a big "ramp" they took with them for stunts.

NOTHING really happened here in central NJ.
As for schools, they first announced a 90 minute delay at 11 last night, but then closed all schools this morning during the worst of the icy stuff at 6:30 AM, a wise decision at the time.
We got a couple of inches of ice, no snow, and the sun has been out for most of the day.
