  • Traveling to Ill

Today, I flew from Houston to Indianapolis and then drove over to Charleston IL to visit my elderly father. It was an interesting day.

First, today is the first day of the NFL combine in Indianapolis. On my flight were 5 young men, huge, carrying their NFL packages to participate in the combine. Boy, even though these guys were huge, they were babies, so young looking. One was from Colorado, one from Central Michigan, and one from Fresno State. I spoke with some of them and all seemed to be really good guys. One of them was reviewing a DVD that had the different skills tests that they would participate in. He was also studying a sample Wunderlich personality test. I would have loved to looked at that test.

Also on my flight was Houston Texans' head coach, Gary Kubiak. I got to say hello. Nice guy. Very unassuming. He spent a lot of time speaking to a well known sports writer here in Houston, John McClain. I know he is on some radio shows in other parts of the country where there are NFL teams.

Our jet apparently had a loose light cover that prevented us from taking off. So we sat there on the jet way for about an hour for a maintenance crew to bring a new cover and a couple of screws. We were fed a couple small bags of pretzels while we were waiting.

Our flight to Indianapolis was smooth. I went from 80 degrees to snow covered fields. However, Indianapolis had a heat wave today too, got up to 45 or 50 degrees. I guess I brought the warmth with me.

After leaving with my rent car, I made a quick stop at exit 66 on I-70 to get some hot fresh White Castle burgers. It's certainly an acquired taste that I love.

The rest of the trip was uneventful on I-70. I am staying at a Hampton Inn in Matoon IL. I sit here on a FREE wifi network in my room. It makes you wonder why the lower price motels/hotels have the free wifi and the TS resorts struggle to get internet. I guess the TSs and higher price hotels who charge for the wifi have customers who expect to be charged for everything.

Anyway, I am out of office but am still here.

    How cool is that?

BELLY BOMBERS! Yummy. Have you tried the jalapeno ones yet?

So you are not "there" but you ARE "here". Addiction at it's finest.

How is DOD? <Dear Old Dad>

Didn't know that they had jalapeno ones? Hmmmm.

DOD is doing great for 90. His wife, however, has severe dementia. About an hour after I arrived, she was telling at me to leave and that she didn't like me. It was like a evil persona overtook her. It's very sad. My poor dad didn't know what to do.
