I agree that the article does not give a great deal of detail. I assumed that the plane was already delayed 15 minutes, due to the childs behavior. This may not be the case. However, under any circumstances "climbing under the seat and hitting the parents" seems inappropriate. We too have travelled extensively with our children, and certainly there are times when the demands of travel have pushed them beyond their patience levels, but never to behavior that is so out of line.

I really fail to understand how the situation on the plane could fall to such a level.
I hope I am not coming across as too strict, but there are some things with children that are totally non negotiable. Sitting in car seats and/or restraints are one of them. It isn't something that is discussed, it is a fact. When you ride in the car, you are in a safety device. Period.
To me, getting into a seat in the plane is along those same lines. Why in the world did things get to that level? My goodness, this isn't something you sit and discuss with a 3 year old for 15 minutes. Put them in the doggone seat! I am pretty sure the parents were a lot bigger than that kid. Pick her up and put her in there. Obviously she was screaming and causing a scene already, she can do that in her seat just as well.Cindi

Since the airplane/child incident happened in Ft. Myers we had lots of news coverage on this. Apparently the parents had paid for a seat for the little girl and the kid refused to sit in the seat. Nothing was ever said about anyone having a 'car seat'. The attendants told the parents the child had to be in her seat. Mom said IF she could hold the child she would be better off on her lap instead in her own seat. But, of course the little girl was crawling around the floor having a fit and wouldn't even let her Mom pick her up. In a later article the grandfather said his granddaughter was a precious little girl. I'm sure she was...just not then.
I wonder where discipline is...I guess out the door. I was in the store the other day and had two kids go whizzing by me on those 'heely' shoes! Those should be banned. So now I have to worry about being hit by kids on those things, or some kid pushing the cart into me. It's a good thing our kids are all grown, because we believed in spanking and discipline when we raised them, and now they say they are going to turn us in for child abuse . I tell them "Fine...and I'll turn you in for Elder abuse" and we all have a good laugh.
