LOL Steve....here we go back again to what is always on a male's mind.

You still haven't told me who the high heeled boys are? I figured you would know if anyone on here. And who is that pakalolo man song by?
"If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

Hey - Ethel Waters sang the song! I guess that was before she started singing in Billy Graham evangelistic crusades! (Though she does mention "God's gift")

Can't help with the high-heeled boys and the pakololo songs - those are outside the genres I'm most familiar with.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

      “You shouldn't wear that body.”

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

          Well, I'm a standing on a corner
          in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see

It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me
No way! It's the girl! The girl in the flatbed Ford is the such a fine sight to see--both because it's a girl and because she's slowing down to look at him and he's going to get a ride from her!

Context folks. Let's go back to what's pretty much always on a guys mind when he sees a girl. Not likely that he's thinking "I'm a fine site to see".

Right. SHE'S the fine sight. Even egotistical Jackson Browne thinks she's a fine sight.

That song always seemed completely clear and linear to me. He's telling a story. I had no idea there was a debate about it.

Why are we not discussing "Go Ask Alice"?

              One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
              Don't do anything at all

              Go ask Alice
              When shes ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall

              Tell them a hookah-Smoking caterpillar
              has given you the call
Call Alice when she was just small
When the men on the chess board get up and tell you where to go

And you just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving slow
              Go ask Alice
              I think she'll know

              When logic and proportion
              Have fallen SLOPPY dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's LOST her head
              Remember what the dormouse said

              Feed your head
              Feed your head

Also, errors often occur in transcribing lyrics.

For example, Lyrics On Demand renders that phrase:
Well I'm a-standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
With such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

LyricsFreak and LyricsMania also show the lyrics that way.

That version makes a lot more sense to me, and it's also closer to the way I remember hearing the lyrics (though I must say I never listened that closely because I never knew this was a point of debate) - until this discussion I've always thought the lyrics were:
Well I'm a-standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona.
                It's
                such a fine sight to see;
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

And when I listen to it at Jackson Browne's web site it sure sounds to me a lot more like "with" than "and".
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

I never found that song the least bit ambiguous. That one's just about as subtle as Jim Morrison and The Doors singing "She's a "Twentieth Century Fox'".

You can't even rely on how the song was sung, because often small words like that get rendered differently between takes. I guess that to be sure, someone would need to get the actual published lyrics.
I listened to the song at least 100 times to isolate this phrase.

As a kid, I always that he was singing:

Well I'm a standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
                        I'm such a fine sight to see;

Slowin' down to take a look at me.

I am quite sure that he is NOT singing "with" or "it's." That is not what is recorded on the original album. Only "and" or "I'm" sounds right.

Since I was singing the song that way for 20 years, my wife laughed at me and told me that I had the word wrong. That's how this debate got started.

She told me that didn't make any sense since nobody would be that conceited.

Listen to it on the link I provided above. That link is off the web page for "The Very Best of Jackson Browne".

sounds the same on the sample from "For Everyman".

Nah, been there. Done that. I'll let someone else listen and make a determination. Depending on the version you listen to. It could sound different every time.

I don’t know who the fine sight to see is anymore, Jackson Brown or the girl in a flatbed Ford.

The next time one of us sees Jackson Brown we will just have to ask.
