  • By Helicopter?

I called a Springfield contractor because we like some houses he is building near Silver Dollar City, and ask if they build individual's houses on the lake.

He said he had appointments in Branson, and another place on Monday, so he would stop by and look at our lot.

I started gving him directions and he said, "I will be coming by helicpopter."

Think we can afford his house?

One of my wife's cousins is a part-onwer in a house construction firm in Oregon that works in the "upscale" end of the housing market - they usually have at least one house in the Street of Dreams every year.

An acquaintance contacted him one day to talk about a remodeling project - the acquaintance figured it to be about $500,000 of work. His reply was quick - the project was too small for them. They don't get involved with any project that is less than $3 million in fees.

This contractor is doing one of the largest projects in the Branson area, Indian Ridge, several thousand acres. It will include houses, condos, resorts, hotels, marina, golf course, etc., and takes up all the land from Silver Dollar City to 13 HWY in Branson West. It is going to triple the population of Branson West, but is mostly resort or investment property.

They are also building investment condo similar to investment condos built by another company in Stonebridge. The other company will not build for individuals outside of their own developments.

We met helicopter guy; had them put down in the parking lot of the old Swiss Villa Amphitheater. Then off it went to another project.

We took our guy to our lot and he/we decided they could build us something. We are going to work through their local supervisor.

Funny how these things work out, but the investment condos they are building on Indian Point are with a nightly rental program. Guess who runs the rental program?

        RCI, through Grand Crown Resorts.

We also found out that the 2000-acre Indian Ridge project this guy's company is developing also has RCI involved. So look for another big RCI resort in the Branson area, or another nightly rental program.

The helicopter came back and found him at our lot and then followed us back to the landing area.

        Cool!

          Jim -

I've always believed that RCI's grand plan has always been to be the leader in vacation accommodations, with timeshare only a piece of that. I've felt the end of the business they were most interested in wast he non-timeshare transient rental business - the same business ResortQuest is in. That's a much bigger business than timeshares, and if they are going to grow significantly, that's about the only direction they can head in.

Your comments above are consistent with that.

We just got back from looking at one of the finished houses. Very nice. And then compnay is obviously planning on being around awhile, with the 200-acre development just starting.

I am going to play around with their floorplan and then we are meeting Helicopter Man again tomorrow.
