  • Woe is my DD .....

...and 7 of her friends who are at Logan International Airport in Boston trying to get on a Cruise Ship in Miami TODAY
They went yesterday morning and were 20 minutes from departure TWICE before being canceled.

Half of their group got out yesterday , but they did not.

Right now we are trying to get them to Washington DC via Amtrack to catch a flight tomorrow to Cozumel to meet the ship on Monday.

Sympathy and suggestion appreciated and yes, they have trip insurance.

Smart strategy! Cozumel is great. Might I suggest if they have time there awaiting their friends, that they go snorkel at Dzul Ha or Playa Corona? If they just want a nice meal, they can have tapas from 12-5 at the restaurant with the great view atop El Cantil. If they like great Italian food head over to Pasta Prima for dinner. For Mexican food and great people watching on the town square, try Casa Denis.

How's that for turning limons into limonada?

      Well that just BLOWS!
I sure hope they make the flight in DC and that the travel insurance is picking up all additional costs.
Here's wishing them the luck of the irish.

Oh, man, Pat. I hope it works out for them. Let us know how it goes. We thought we were going to get stuck in Orlando yesterday. Our Southwest plane home to Indy was coming from Philly. Southwest ended up sending a plane from Texas to get us home. But I was starting to wonder if I needed to call DVC and grab a room to stay a few more days.

Hope they make it. I guess one never knows what might come up. Did they get their plane tickets from the cruise line or get them on their own? I have always opted out on cruises and gotten them on my own to save a few dollars, maybe I need to reconsider. Keep us posted.

Now that's disappointing...this also happened to friends of mine a few years ago. At that time, the cruise ship company...can't remember which one, got them to their next port, as they had their air fare included in the cost of their cruise...So they got there, but it was hard to miss two days of their hard earned and much anticipated honeymoon at sea!

                  Wow, Pat, sounds bad.
I hope they meet up with their cruise and have a good rest of their trip.

                    Excellent lemonade

As this snowstorm advisory was up (at least on my accesses) more than a day in advance, this is where being an early bird and knowing airline policies helps. Most airlines try to facilitate folks under these circumstances but being at the front of "the line" helps, which means being an elite and making requests early. It's possible a number of them could've bumped up a day (for no cost) and spent the night in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, as an example. I have done this before (though not in conjunction with a cruise). One just has to be proactive. I might, if forced to, even book a close-in award on another airline that has space, in advance of the storm.

                    Well, you wanted suggestions

Best wishes for their safe travels. That's the important thing...

Just spoke to DD, they are back at the hotel.

I saw the flights at 6 am this morning to Cozumel from Washington and they could have been on the Amtrack train at 9:40 but they haven't heard back from their Travel Agent.
Now, there is only one flight left from DC to Cozumel, the good flights are gone and they have missed the 9:40 train......

                      The saga continues

                        Thanks Pat....

They were suppose to fly today, they were at the airport yesterday by 11 am - half the group of 16 got flights, my DD checked and retreived her luggage 3 times as all 3 flights were canceled
I do have to say that my suggestion yesterday morning was to take Amtrak to DC and try to fly this morning from there...but as you see, half their group did get out ....

I have no idea what I would do. Open a bottle of wine maybe? Realy I think I would drink a bottle and kiss the trip good buy rather than playing catch up with the ship.
