My pet peeve is tipping I know us Aussies are known to be tight with tipping but we own a business in Aus and we have to pay our staff a wage that keeps them and tipping is only if you want to for good service
Next month we are going to Canada and l am told we will have to tip the bus tour a 15 per cent for our bus tour which cost us $ 12000.00 Aus $ now that comes to a rate of $ 1800.00 for a tip what do you think a tip to the bus tour should be
Some years ago we was in Hawaii went on a helicoter tour and had to give $150.00 tip for $1000.00 tour thank god we do not give tips here in Aus we pay our staff good money to keep them why cannot it be in the USA and Canada and other countrys
I know you will lable me a tight with money but in 61 years old and I have never received a tip ever for what we have done in life and that is the way over here .
I know you will say you are over here now and you tip but why can not business pay a wage that keeps staff like we do

    A very broad brush

that you used to paint the North American Continent all the same color.

As a printing company here in the US I pay all our people very well. None of us receive tips.

But service workers in any area are paid much lower wages as a portion of their income is based upon tips.

    WHY?
If they were all paid well to start with, the service wouldn't be as good, the prices for the items would be higher to reflect the increased costs to the employer( as you know business don't pay for things, customers do one way or the other).
Now the numbers you quoted must be for a large group, or and extended time period, as $12K Aus and an $1800 tip, must be for more than a quick ride around town.

I don't think I would tip at all for a $1,000 helicopter trip on Hawaii, especially if the pilot was the owner of the company or a private pilot. And for a multiday bus tour I would probably give a really great bus driver a couple of hundred dollars and think I was being really generous. Bus drivers and helicopter pilots are not dependent on tips the way restaurant servers and taxi drivers are. Why do you think 15 percent tips are necessary?

Tipping 15 to 20 % is for food. You would adjust your tips to what the standard is for what services you are receiving.

Without a doubt, my biggest pet peeve in life is intolerance. I get so angry at people who are intolerant. I can't help it; it just makes makes my blood boil. I wish those intolerant people would just consider how they sound when they start running down other people. Maybe then they might learn to exercise some restraint.

          'Nuff said!!
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”

another thing is that owners are not tipped the same as employees. a helicopter pilot that owns his own 'copter and service is going to get all of the $1000, unlike a hired hand. same goes for a hairdresser that owns her own shop, but you'd have to ask the ladies about that. Ken

They SAY you don't have to tip the owner of a hairdressing shop, but women almost always do. Here's a pet peeve for you: My neighbor cuts hair in her home as well as for a very expensive local shop. I always thought she was charging me quite a bit for someone working out of her home, then I discovered that she charges the same in her home as the salon charges for her work at the salon. Sorry, but I would rather go to the salon--at her house I have to get my hair rinsed in the basement sink and she's constantly screaming at her kids.

The final straw was when she was complaining that she had done a friend's hair and the total came to $130. The friend asked if she had change for $140 and she didn't. The friend said, "Okay, next time you'll just take $10 off the total." I didn't even know why my neighbor was so annoyed--it turned out she thought that the friend should have let her keep the extra $10 as a tip. Then I realized that this was probably also her way of telling me that I was supposed to be tipping her, too.

I hope you hold your nose when she rinses your hair in her sink.

                    My pet peeve...can I have 2?

Rudeness. Be it driving, shopping, dealing with people. It doesn't take much effort to be pleasant and things go along so much easier when you make that effort.

Lying. I can't/won't bear it. Tell the truth, own up to it and DON'T BLAME OTHERS for your actions.

OK so maybe that is 3...

I have many pet peeves. Just ask my husband.

                        Let' see for starters....

I hate the fact that we pay the salary of our police force, and in return, they hide in the bushes, and give us speeding tickets.

It drives me absolutely crazy, when it's late January, and I see a house with Christmas decorations, or a Christmas tree, that are still lit up....I want to get out of my car, go ring their bell, and ask them what is wrong with them.

I don't like it when my husband squeezes the toothpaste from the middle of the tube, after I neatly rolled it up from the bottom.....Like every single day.

I get extremely frustrated, when I call a service, and the person who is assisting me, has a heavy accent, and I can't understand what they are saying....I mean how many times can you say "excuse me" or "could you please repeat that".

Oh, I could just go on, and on, but I won't bore you.
                        Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

                          Tipping

I would have to say my main pet peeve would also be about tipping. I feel this way for 2 reasons. The first reason is I work in the Grocery Business and we have never been allowed to accept tips and we don't make much more than enough just to live on. I remember when I started in the business 37 years ago at $2.23 an hour as a courtesy clerk and people wanted to tip me and all I could do was tell them the best tip they could give me was to tell the mgr. what a great job I did of helping them. Some did, some didn't want to bother because they felt it didn't matter.
The other part of tipping I don't like is a set amount put on by someone else.
If I get good service, I tip and if I don't get good service why should I?

My pet peeve are shoppers who leave shopping carts in parking spaces at Target, Wal Mart, grocery store, etc.

What do they think the "cart corrals" are for? Is it really that difficult/time consuming to push the cart 15 feet to the cart storage area?

                            Grrr.

                              Yeah...I hate that, too.

I also hate people who get on the express line with way more items then they should have. Then, proceed to take 9 years to pay for their stuff. They can't get their credit card to work. Or, they're paying by check, etc., etc.
