The town where we live makes it mandatory for all shopping carts to have a coin slot attached to the handle which requires a $1 or $2 coin to be inserted in order to be used. People need to return the trolley to the trolley bay to get their money back. Solves that hazard.
We had that at a Pathmark here a few years ago. The "deposit" was a quarter or a little metal thing that Pathmark would give you to keep in your pocket. I hated the system because being a cart collector is an actual job, providing a wage to some worker. Take away the need to collect carts in the lot, and you take away someone's job.
People still abandoned carts in the lot, by the way. The Pathmark gave up on the system after about a year.
Those who call people "neo-cons" because they happen to disagree with their political views.
Yes, you are absolutely correct and I stand corrected. What was I thinking ?
I meant chicken-hawk neo-cons.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
And yes, I really disagree with their views, political and otherwise.
Hey Pigs, you sound familiar. Is it really you ??? Missed ya.
Calling them as I see them.............

Yes, tipping is and should still be provided for good service, but this explains why historically Canadians tip far less than Americans. Minimum wage is just that. It is a base hourly wage that everyone is paid. It differs from province to province, but is still fairly high compared to the US. (It currently ranges from $7 - $8.50)
Hi All
As I am the one that started this thred when I here the wage of $7.00 to $8.50 per hour and you say they can keep a family on that I can see why you have to tip what is the wage of a bus driver and so on
We over here in Australia that have to have staff on full time and we own a part share in a hotel for a bar man you pay $20.00 plus per hour if part time it can be more if weekends it is more then you have to give them 4 weeks payed leave per year and pay into a retirement fund also
Being on hold for "customer service" whether it's the phone company, cable, you get the idea.
I've spent hours at times holding as well as talking trying to solve a problem ( and the ones I am really angry about were not of my creation either).
What really rips me is that I am not getting paid to fix their problem, and THEY are...
(example: Cablevision: They billed us for hundreds of $ in pay per view movies that were never ordered. I had the channels blocked so I know it could not have happened. (and no one here was smart enough to override it, trust me).
Took HOURS, finally got the charges taken off, got PPV blocked by THEIR office not just on my clicker, so no one could EVER order a movie without talking to someone in their office -- and three months later, they billed us again. Really. For hundreds of $$, for a variety of movies being shown a minute apart. It was ludicrous on the face of it, but it was much harder to get rid of this time as they said i used up my " maximum lifetime credit allowance".
This was at least 6 hours of MY TIME, and as I said, NOT a problem of my creation. )
Rant over.

You mean you DIDN'T watch Teen Spank Inferno 42 times last month?
You mean you DIDN'T watch Teen Spank Inferno 42 times last month?
actually now that i have teens.... who i'd like to spank but don't, this might just be the one...but then i'd have to call customer service, and then i'd be put on hold....

Words from a Canuck:
No need to tip the bus driver any more than maybe $10 if he was really really great.
No need to tip a helicopter pilot at all. Or a hair stylist for that matter.
When big company raises rates or takes away a benefit and tells you it's "value added" or "for the benefit of our customers."
About 2-3 years ago we received the usual rate increase from Comcast, our local cable company. It was a lovely worded letter that for the $10/month increase they were adding all this value...we would be receiving additional channels, on and on.
Well, after comparing the new channel line up to the old, they were REMOVING two channels . The fact that they were foreign language channels is immaterial . Called Comcast and asked them to explain the "additional value" we were getting for our $10 monthy increase. Without hesitation, the rep recited the party line. Once I challenged him, he pulled up our service area and said, oh yeah, you're in that service area...it doesn't apply to you. I insisted he tell me what added value we were getting for the additional $10/month.
He said "how about if I give you a $15/month credit to your account for the next 12 months?" Now that's what I call added value !
