Scratches and a platinum (brushed) nickel door handle - help please

My front door lock has a big scratch on it, looks like it's been keyed.

Thanks for the other tip Frank, between that, noxon and some fine steel wool DH has his next "project". (yes that and changing lightbulbs are the extent of Mr. home fix it man) Maybe it will even work.
