Beags, I feel for you. Have had three sets of sbiling kitties pass through my life, and I know how hard it can be to lose your best friend.

You and he have been through a lot together to be sure and you have done all you can to keep him with you.
He was able to have a great life I am sure, thanks to a smart vet, and your rescue.

You both are in my thoughts,
    Irene

I am so sorry you are facing loosing your dear companion. I know how sad this time is for you since I, too, have been there. Twice. I still weep when I remember my dear Cinnamon & Tasha. Both were abandoned show puppies that weren't "good" enough in the eyes of the breeders. They each during their lives gave our family much love & joy and continue even now to give us joyful memories. Hugs to you both.

I am so sorry to hear about your poor little beagle boy. I am sitting here with tears running down my cheeks right now.

I just went through the same thing with my much loved Max. We had to let him go in Dec. He was only a year and a half old, but we had been fighting for most of that time with a problem with his liver. Letting go of him was the hardest thing I have had to so in many years.

Remember the good times and know he had the best possible life he could have with you.

I hope our pets are waiting for us in heaven.

I read this thread knowing full well I shouldn't have..only because it's really breaks my heart to hear about an animal in pain. All I can say is I send you the best thoughts and wishes. I have 3 cats of my own, and they are my greatest loves, the best kids ever. Hugs to you and your baby.

He remains in ICU at Tufts. Improved about ten per cent, however, he had chemo last week which should drop his white blood cell count (infection fighters) in two days. Hopefully, the heavy-hitting IV antibiotics that he's getting now will put a big dent in the pneumonia before the WBC drop.
He picked up his head and drank a little water which he hasn't done in two days.
I'm wiped and am going to sleep next to the phone.
You are all such wonderful people. Give all your companion animals a hug from us.
              Thank you.

I'm giving my dog and cat an extra big hug tonight based on your comments.

My brother just lost his beloved cat to cancer a few weeks ago (and we've lost several of our dogs to that disease over the years). I'm so sympathetic to you at this difficult time.

It's so hard to see those sweet pets in such a sad time at the end of their lives. They don't know what's going on, only that you love them. Take comfort in that.

                  Dear Jeanne,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Scooter. I've lost 3 best friends over the last few years. The first was my own dear Scooter who was a beagle-spaniel mix.

You never stop loving them, but the pain of losing them does lessen. I am so sorry for you and Scooter.

Our 4-year old Beagle Lady wishes the best to your 13 year-old Scooter.
We never want to see our children ill, be they human or 4-legged.
When we had to put Lucy down (she had blood tumors, hemangioma sarcoma) we were devistated, and Karen never wanted another pooch.
3 years later my boss had a rambunctious puppy their family couldn't keep, and I suprised my wife after work one day...
Although her middle name (the dog, not the wife) is "Trouble" she is the brightest star in our life.
(Now we just need to convince our favorite Timeshare to accept dogs)

All the best wishes and prayers for you, your family and Scooter.

                      Oh Beags (((Big, Big Hugs)))
I think the right people own the right dogs. I know my Ace was meant to be with me. He was ill basically all his life with a really odd immune disorder. We lived at the specialist. My identity became Ace's Mom. I won't go in to details. My sister brought me a St. Francis medal from Sedona and he wore it on his collar. You have provided Scooter the best life just as I did for Ace when others would have shunned them or worse.

I think your post here sums it up:

Cicero, Virgil or one of the others said something to this effect:

"It is good that our animal companions don't live twice as long as our grief would be double".

What helped me make the final decision for Ace was knowing that I was transferring his pain to my heart. I grieved and I hurt and I wore it proudly for I knew that he no longer did.

I wish for you comfort in whatever decision you must make.

Well, it's off to Tufts I go for the vigil.
I made him his favorite home made beef stew last night in hopes that he'll be interested in it.

In the words of Bartles & Jaymes, "Thank you for your support".
