  • It's The Easter Beagle !

    The Scoot Report:

He remains in ICU, but not in an oxygen cage. The vets are calling him their "miracle dog" as he should not be here, but he is. I have been staying with him and hand feeding him homemade beef broth & shredded boiled beef & rice, taking him outside to urinate(the cathether was removed) and just comforting him (or vice versa). I am blessed to be able to stay over in his cage (big, walk-in type).Tufts is good like that.
The plan is to release him tomorrow (what a birthday gift) to home where he will probably pass away during the week. The pneumonia did a number on his lungs which have cancer, bilaterally. I have a slew of meds, both oral and injectable, to make him comfortable with. At least he will be home, in his own bed, with Lucy (his Beagle sister), me and Beagledad.
    Bittersweet, but God is great.
Thank you, each and every one of you, for sharing your stories and support.
In the words of Ralph Cramden, "Baby, you're the greatest !".

Late edit: Changed my avatar to a happier time down the old cottage on Cape Cod. I did the needlework for this pillow (from a kit) which was almost identical to Scooter. There he is on the messy Beagle-bed.

            Joyous Passover, Sharon.

I have to email you re: something that I found in my husband's briefcase (Rachel's get well card !!). I don't think he did it on purpose, I hope.
            I'll email you.

Scooter has an amazing owner and is one very lucky dog. It would be great if all pet owners were as wonderful as you have been to Scooter.

What a special birthday present for you to take Scooter home so he can be with you and his sister Beagle too. Animals feel what is going on so she will understand which she wouldn't have if Scooter hadn't come home to her.

When our Siamese cat was dying from the Taurine deficiency, as his heart was so damaged, our second Siamese cat left him alone but one evening, he went to snuggle up next to Tiger like he always used to do. They were like two Siamese twins as they were inseparable day and night. It was his saying goodbye to him and he seemed to have accepted Tiger’s fate. I will never forget this.

I wished God would do a miracle for you and Scooter. That would be great.

It's good to hear that Scooter will be going home. I know that he will be more much more comfortable at home, surrounded by his loved ones.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I will hold you up in prayer as you face the difficult task of saying good-bye. So glad she can be home!

I hope you are able to spend a special day with your Scooter. To bring him home is quite a gift. I have always regretted that my two dogs died at the vet's. I wish I could have brought them home and held them as they went to the "Rainbow Bridge." I am sending you <<<HUGS>>> as I know how hard this is for you.

Well, he's home with me. Prince-Rootin'-Tootin'-Scootin' is home and they just cannot believe it at Tufts. They call him the "miracle dog". Must've been all those good thoughts and prayers. Yes, he's just a dog, but one of God's noblest creatures.

I'm giving him chest PT (percussion to move the secretions), and a whole slew of meds, injections, etc.

He is interested in his beef broth and that's a plus.

I am grateful that we can be together at the end. With the pericardial effusion, he could collapse at any minute, but I told him that he'd have to take a number............. I'm first !!!

It's been a long haul, but made lighter by all of you. Will keep you informed.
