  • On my way to Guest status.

I've debated re-upping my membership at TUG but I can't justify it. There are things that I'll miss because of the quick reference, like reviews, but I can get just as good from Trip Advisor and our own growing database. Sightings I obviously don't need. Losing the search mechanism will be annoying.

When I first joined about 7 years ago I was so grateful to find TUG. I learned so much there and made contacts that I still maintain today. I'll still be able to post on topics I feel I can add value to as well.

So I guess I'll just hum "Be Our Guest" from Beauty & the Beast when I check in OY on occasion.

No shame in guest status. I never paid Tug either. I'm doing without 'member content' just fine and always have.

I got a message that my membership has expired. Since it was a lifetime membership, I now feel it is necessary to go find someone to take my pulse right now.

I do reviews and I get a six-month extension for each one. I haven't paid since my original membership, a couple of years ago.

You can also extend Timesharing Today subscriptions by sending in their review sheets.

TUG goes through phases, and right now IMHO it is on the upswing under its newest Admin. Freedom of expression seems to exist OY now when at times in the past, it has not.

I disagree, I think it is at an all time low. I heard of a guy who they didn't like his posts, of course the threat of being banned wasn't enough for them to use, they saw from IP addresses that he had posted from work and threatened to notify his workplace.

So did you wake up this morning?

I have never received an extension for reviews although I have submitted many over the years. I also dislike the fact that once a review is submitted, it is treated as TUG property and you are not to post it anywhere else.

I have noticed things are a bit less heavy-handed, moderation-wise, unless everyone is being very "nice" lately. From the little I check things seem a bit less contentious. Maybe all the pot-stirrers are on vacation.

Do you know this as a fact or purely from 'urban myth'?? Even if they did tie his IP to a work location they would have no way of knowing if the person had permission to use the system or not. It sounds far fetched in the extreme.
Carolinian isn't exactly famous for blind loyalty to TUG and my experience on the site tends to support his view. Things are much more relaxed over there now than they were a couple of years ago when the partiality of mods, sniping and backbiting were at their worst.

                      Or relocated.

I have no problem donating here or on TUG - I get back MUCH more than I give for a few bucks.
I also don't have a problem with people who are 'guests'.

I know this for a fact insomuch as I personally know, have met, shook hands with, the person who this happened to. Sure they don't know the rules of the workplace, but I can assure you from what I know of the workplace, TUG could assume that use of the internet for 'pleasure' is/was not allowed. This is not an urban myth.

They really didn't like my comment in an Ask RCI thread where I said ... and you expect an answer to this... Whenever, when they can get money. They told me that my posts were 'abrasive' and not 'playing nice.' As usual I call a spade a spade and Ask RCI is a farce that they protect like it was gold.

Regarding the reviews--they have to be 180 days after the last review of that resort was submitted. Fortunately I seem to go mostly to places that no one else will visit!

They are never caught up on counting these things. When I get my dunning e-mail from TUG, asking for my $15, I send an e-mail back saying, "I wrote a review of XXX and I get an extension" and they eventually credit me.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
