Opt out to get off the credit card mail list? If so, did it work? Did you give them your SS#?

Never give out your SS #unless you have to. I rather keep getting junk mail than give out that #.

That concern shouldn't be an issue in this case, Frank. The opt-out site is run by Equifax, Experian, Innovis, and TransUnion, all of whom already have your S.S. # and much more. See this FTC link for some independent evidence that the site is on the up-and-up.

There are other ways to opt out of credit offers, but it takes more work for the effort to be as comprehensive as at riverdees' link.

Dave if you say it is safe then I believe it to be safe. From hearing all the story's about ID theft I tend to be very cautious with my SS #.

I agree. I have made a lot of changes in how I protect my personal info from years ago. I'm sure I haven't done enough....
