  • Why?

Why does there need to be a pissing match between TUG and TS4MS? I just don't get it. We are all wherever we are by our own choice. We contribute, or don't, again by our own choice. For the life of me, I don't get why there has to be name calling, finger pointing and a lot of chest pounding "we're better than them!"

I apparently joined TS4Ms in 2006 but never really read any of the content here until the group was recently pointed out to me by a common member of both groups who was offended by a post I made about "guests." HOLY COW! I had no idea it was such a can of worms. My comment "OY" was made because of the number of people who come into that forum, out of the blue, and either whine about something (usually the purchase they made two weeks before and they can't rescind) or they want "expert advise" from knowledgeable TS owners before taking the plunge.

The way I see it, internet communities only work if people join and take part in the community of sharing information. I don't like to see freeloaders (defined however you wish to) come in to tap into resources without "paying their dues" either with money or in sharing and contributing to the informational flow. There are several "guests" there who are high end contributors - - JLB comes to mind as probably the most prolific "guest" on TUG and yet I would not consider him a freeloader of the TUG system.

I don't know how one can resolve the balance between membership, paid membership and contributing membership . . . but I do not like to see people in any internet forum who come wanting and taking information without any real contribution to the community at all.

I know I'm going to make an enemy or two by posting this here, but the issue seems to be "here" and not "there" so that is why I'm posting in this forum. I sincerely hope that I will not have the rath of whoever upon me for speaking up . . . but I posted with some degree of confidence that individual, spirited opinions are cherished and perhaps even applauded here. Not that I'm awaiting anyone's standing ovation mind you, just that I hope my view will be treated with some respect and accepted as just that . . . my view.

Tug is Tug & I'll never post a reply in their forum other than bein nice cause after so many years of a "click" there & its still goin on ~~ There are way tooooooooo many so called "friends" at Tuf & it will never change until the Administrators & monitors agree to "back-off" a little ~~ Payin for Tug Memebership is a waste to me & don't tell me I know what I'm talkin bout ~~ You get more enjoyment & info from Timeshare Forums than you will every get at Tug ~~ Yes ~~ I'm a guest at Tug & will be for what ever time I have left in my old age ~~ I was once a member for one year but after all the so called members at Tug ~~ only a very few have wisdom ~~ The rest are a "click" ~~ It hasn't changed in years & it won't change in the up-comin years ~~

I'll say one thing for Brian ~~ he's tryin but his Dad is an azz ~~ That can't be resolved after all these years ~~ I just hope Brian try a little harder in the up-comin years at Tug ~~ This site has understandin people & probably will continue with that ~~ Let the people over at Tug keep payin their money to Tug ~~ I still think its a rip-off but that's "MHOO" ~~

Over there, they have guests and members and some members don't appreciate the non-paying guests, so that has to be where your commentary came from. A few years ago there were events that made some unhappy with the way things were handled over there and we were basically told to leave if we didn't like it. That led to the formation of TSTips and the subsequent migration here. It is understandable that many that came here did not like TUG or the way it was run and some are still fuming a bit, so inevitably subjects will come up. When they do, it's a red light for the moderating staff who are watchful that things don't get out of hand. We believe in allowing more freedom of expression here and do not like to edit posts and close threads but rather deal with any problems that come up privately. There doesn't need to be "a pissing contest", but there are many aggravating occurances that tend to foster it.

As a fairly new member here. I hope were not frighting you. We are for the most part an open forum that is free to use. You can discuss what ever you like here and if it's politics you want we have a political forum as well that is join in only. We also have some private forums that you do not see that are join in and Invite only. Normally it is a friendly atmosphere OH. But when something Happens OY people want to discuss it openly here because like at the moment they are unable to do so OY because I believe 2 members were banned. I am a Tug member have been for years. I try to stay neutral of these threads because it would not be fair to those involved if I took sides. That is one reason why these threads are still going. I hope that they all cool off and make up but I don't think it is going to happen. I try to be friends with everyone and I can not pick sides. So we allow the posts hoping that they make up which believe it or it has happened with some of the members here. The Conch Man that posted right below you patched things up on these forums with a member. They did not like each other but things came out in the open and they made up. I felt great about that even though I was not involved because it was done here. Both parties were and still are friends of mine.

We really are a fun group here as is Tug , really I mean it we are.

Mmmmm i know there is a typo there . . . assuming you didn't mean "fighting" and you intended to type "frightening" (cuz I don't want you to fight me either - I think I'll lose) . . . I can assure you, I'm not frightened. I can stand up for myself and am not too concerned about speaking up and even taking an unpopular position or one that represents a minority interest (like the FF fixed weeks vs. FF points points of view).

I was thrown off a group once upon a time and "banned for life" because I chose to speak my mind about some group related issues that were not mainstream because of my personal vantage point. By definition, some issues will have winners and losers, which with emotion, will be a cocktail for explosive discussion . . . as we've seen here over the past couple of days.

It is disappointing to see some of the arguements and attacks taking place, for which there is probably long standing issues that use newer folks will never understand or appreciate. I don't know that I want to know or need to know why folks have been polarized vis-a-vis TUG vs TS4Ms . . . I just accept that it exists. I hope that it will not affect my enjoyment of participation in either group, as I really wish to be a contributing member of both communities.

I hold the power to choose what I read and what to avoid, so I will accept responsibility should I allow the arguing or bickering to affect my experience on either forum. I am glad that we have choices and that people are encouraged to participate freely.

Admittedly, I have only been a member OY for just over a year, and have only become "active" here in the past week or two so I'm really in no position to take sides on longstanding issues and debates. Actually, I don't want to take sides either. And there are people involved in these recent threads who I respect and have appreciated OY throughout the past year. I hope they can mend fences and return, but alas, I don't know if that will happen for several reasons.

Anyway . . . thank you for reassuring me and making sure I'm not frightened by the folks here. Frankly, most of them are familiar to me from OY. I'm just seeing another side to them that is, well let's just say "different."

I would never tell you you don't know what you're talking about. I don't know you nor is it for me to make a value judgement for someone else.

For me, the money I paid for my first year of TUG was well worth it. I've since earned renewals that I think get me through this time next year, so I'm not into TUG for any more than my initial $15 payment. If I never have to pay again, I think my $15 was well spent and my personal value has exceeded the small price I have paid.

Of course, like you and others, should the time come that I need to dig into my wallet and pay for my TUG renewal, I will need to assess my own perceived value and decide whether or not I want to pay up. For now, that is a decision that is at least a year out.

Yes Yvonne I ment frightened You will note that I am the worst speller and my Grammer is not the best.

Believe me we are all the same group oH as we are OT, We just get a bit nutty OH and are able to post more R rated things here. Tug IMO has been more of a G rated site but I think they might be working there way to a PG rating.

                          Yvonne,
No pissing contest here or at TUG. Spirited conversations, lively debates do not a pissing contest make.
I know that you're new here and mean well, however, painting us with a broad stroke is neither true or fair.
There are small areas of contention which are being worked out and because of the nature of this great site, we can do it publicly.
                          Stay tuned (and welcome).

I only found about about TS4MS recently (what does the MS stand for anyway?). I have been a member of TUG for about 2 years, and I have been glad to pay $15/yr membership. I feel that I have gotten more than my money's worth from all the great information I have gleaned. I think the TS4MS is good as well.

If someone feels offended that they need to pay to become a member of TUG, well just don't go to their website!
