portable dvd player to use on the beach

I wanted to buy a portable DVD player for my Mom to watch movies at the beach. Anyone have one where the image quality is good outdoors. I know a lot of the lcd screens get washed out in sunlight and aren't even useable. Any suggestions?

We had a 7" that quit working on the plane during our last vacation. It makes a flight appear so much quicker and more enjoyable. So while on vacation, we purchased an 8 1/2 inch at a Sams Club for about $129.00 and it work's great. I believe the brand is Nortech. We tried it on the backyard porch and it worked just fine.

That extra 1 1/2 inches makes a Big Difference.

Thanks- so do you think the screen will be ok on the beach under a palapa or some other shade (was your porch relatively bright/sunny like that)? I was also thinking that the little larger one might be more enjoyable for her- thanks for the suggestion.

When we used it outside it was sunny but I do not recall how much.

You can always ask the salesperson at the store and return it if it does not work out.
