Paris Hilton gets 45 days in jail

Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton has been jailed for 45 days after being found guilty of violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction.

A Los Angeles judge ruled she must start her sentence on 5 June and has no prospect of an early release.

Ms Hilton told the judge she was very sorry and that she would "pay complete attention to everything" from now on.

The socialite said she did not know her licence had been suspended when caught driving without headlights in February.

I heard that she will be separated from the other inmates, but will only be allowed, one hour a day, out outside.....I guess she had it coming to her.

TSK TSK TSK . . . poor little rich girl! I'm glad the judge didn't let her off and has her serving some time. I was shocked to read that she was late for court, taking a page out of the Michael Jackson "What not to do when you have a day in court" book.

After the appeal and some greasing of the wheels with a little of the Hilton fortune, I'll be surprised if she spends one night in a standard county lock-up. My bet is her family is able to buy her way into one of the "resort" prisons many wealthy inmates manage to get into. The judge had to pass this sentence but I don't think it will remain intact.

On the other hand, reading the comments made by Paris's mother I can almost understand how she's turned out to be such a dense little rich girl. There is no reality check for the super rich famalies of the world.

              What comments from her mother?

This girl is relatively out of control. And becoming ever more famous for being slutty. But she is a danger behind the wheel and I'm glad there are consequences. What an idiot to be late to her hearing!!

                You get what you deserve.

                She could have got more?

Makes me wonder, is that the punishment that the judge would give to everyone?

Connie it happened to me once....NY doesn't send notices certified, registered. They had suspended my license for non-payment <their fault not mine> and I never knew until I was pulled over nearly 2 years later in NJ.

I got it corrected the next day and everything was dropped.

Not in defense of poor Paris.

In California, the expiry date of one's license is printed on the license. If I don't get my renewed license by the time the current one expires I contact the DMV. Of course, I am not a globe-trekking multi-billionaire.... yet!

She was asked the same question in court as they had the signed confirmation from her acknowledging the fact that her licence had been suspended. Her excuse? - She just signs whatever 'her people' give her to sign. She doesn't bother to read things first. Jeez she does deserve to be locked up for being so thick

Somehow I think she will leverage her jail time into a new fortune. As it is now, she can command $500k for simply showing up to a club for a party....her rates will soon go up!

Just think...she could make millions attending parties with a countdown to paris going to jail themes...then make some more millions for the getting out of jail parties. She could then do some new videos, books, magazine, jail clothing, jail food, jail perfume endorsements...timeshares (nahh!)

This will only give her more "street credibility" and will makre her wealthier.

                          Her mother was visibly upset.

"This is pathetic and disgusting, a waste of taxpayer money with all this nonsense. This is a joke," Kathy Hilton said of the judge's decision.

Defense attorney Howard Weitzman said he would appeal.

"I'm shocked, I'm surprised and really disheartened in the system that I've worked in for close to 40 years," Weitzman said.

He said the sentence was "uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous."

"I think she's singled out because of who she is," Weitzman said.

Obviosly her mother and her attorney have one foot in outerspace and the other foot in make believe land. To much money will do that to you. They just don't believe that there are consequences for them that are the same as everyone else. After all, they are rich and the rest of us just pave the way for them. Anyone not of there standing is just someone to use as a servent.

Her attorney thinks she was "singled out because of who she is." No, she was singled out because of her ATTITUDE IMO. She's caught more than once driving on a suspended license and shows up late to her own court hearing. She shows a COMPLETE lack of respect for the law and everyone else. She obviously thinks the rules don't apply to her and the rest of the filthy rich.

Her mother thinks this is a waste of taxpayers money. Well, what else are you going to do to shock a spoiled little rich girl into reality? Tell her not to do it again? That obviously hasn't worked. Maybe if her mother had spent more time teaching the little rich girl that there are rules to life that she must follow, just like the poor kids, Paris wouldn't be in the position she's in at the age she's at.

The complete loss of reality of the filthy rich disgusts me to no end. Despite what they may think, they are no better than anyone else. They're just better off than most everyone else.

As Keith noted, this was a very different situation. Paris' license had been suspended for a previous traffic violation (drunk driving, I think) and she had to sign a statement acknowledging that her license was suspended. That signed statement was in fact found in her glove compartment when she was pulled over for the latest offense.

I think jail is appropriate. Nothing else seems to be working with her.

Paris is such an airhead that maybe she really doesn't know what suspended means. Once on TV it showed her driving with a couple of her girl friends and when she reached a toll booth they all claimed they had no money (yeah, right) and some other driver paid it for them. Don't know if he knew who they were but they just play dumb and get away with a lot.
