  • San Francisco - Bay To Breakers Race/Party '07

We went to the San Francisco (ING) Bay to Breakers race/street party today. The event was much more mild than usual. Attendance also looked way down from previous years.

"Bay To Breakers" is a race and street party that starts in the Financial District of San Francisco and ends at Ocean Beach. This event usually has outrageous costumes, naked people and even centipedes! Usually the costumes/themes revolve around latest news events, including presidential elections.

Here are a few pictures from today:

Thanks for the pictures! I have lived in Bay Area for 13 years and have yet to make it to the Bay to Breakers. Looks more like a parade rather than a race

      More pictures

Lisa, I have been to a number of these races. You are right- it is a huge block party. Costumes can vary from nothing to really elaborate, so if one is easily offended this may not be appropriate for some. It is San Francisco, after all...

We usually drive to Daley City Bart and park our car there and take BART to SF. This way we don't have to worry about parking etc.

After all these years, living in San Francisco I have never been to the Bay to Breakers. But, I have been to the after party in the Polo Fields a few times, the Polo Fields are in walking distance from my house. After seeing these pictures I think I will get up early next year and go watch the race in person. Thanks for posting!

"Foot Stock", the after race party at the Polo Fields is lots of fun. There are stalls for food and other items. Usually a pretty good band playing too. We will look you up next time we participate in this event

OK. BTW, Isn't it time to plan a TUG/TS4Ms luncheon?

Thanks for the photos, Kapish. Somehow, I always thought the Bay to Breakers was a legitimate marathon like in Boston I'm thinkin' from thoses pics that some of the participants could really use the exercise. And I bet those beverage containers aren't full of water.

Yes, please, let's plan a NorCal Get-together. I missed last year because of work. I'm hoping I can make it this time!

It is, for many runners. For many others it's like a big party.
