Taste: Big black and purple fruit, plenty of huckleberry, chocolate, and lavender on the nose. Rich midpalate of blackberry pie, smoke and spice melds into the chocolately finish.

Cameron Confidential: Paso Robles, due to the greatest extremes between hot days and cool nights of any region in the state, has established its reputation as one of the best places to grow Syrah and (as well as Petite Sirah) in California. This wine was made as an ?exploratory wine? by a boutique producer testing a relatively new vineyard. The wine was made with natural yeasts and aged 19 months in mostly neutral oak. Two different lots were made and we chose this one over the other for its combination of intensity and low tannin drinkability. Neither wine was bottled by the producer as they decided to tweak the vineyard management a bit to get to the $35-40 price point they were looking for.

btw, I just opened a bottle of the red Spadina "Una Rosa" Nero D’Avola 2003 the other night, it was so sharp we didn't drink it. So I would avoid that one if it comes up today, it has a red rose on the label. I will keep it for cooking.

I just had mine and it was good. I had it slightly chilled. Try another bottle because mine was nothing like you described.
