  • Q: Want to Install a Billboard Along I-95

    Maryland - Virginia - Carolinas - Florida

I am interested in placing a billboard on a property that I intend
to buy - so that people can ride by and see my ads along I-95

Can anyone tell me what type of permit I would need (& the cost)
What type of zoning or special exception would I need for a billboard.
It will be a Real Estate Timeshare Sign like the ones you see while
driving thru Florida - Cute like Pedro`s South of the Boarder signs.

The Billboard Sign would be installed on my property by a professional
However, it will not be from a local billboard sign advertising company.

I wrote to several counties and am awaiting a reply -
but was wondering if anyone here as any suggestions.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but here's some information I found:

I wonder how much Pedro would pay to place a billboard on my property

You probably should contact the Department of Transportation or Highway Department for each state you are considering for sign installation to see what the requirements are in that state and along their Interstate Highway.

            Reminds me...

This reminds me of the furor raised in the KY House Transportation Committee each legislative session.
We have, each year, a bill to allow the trimming of trees and bushes between billboards and Interstates in Kentucky, all to be approved and supervised by an arbortorist (sp?).
The tree huggers show up and carry on as if we were decimating the forest ares of the state, but the bill always passes out of committee. However, it is never brought to the floor for a vote, probably because House leadership doesn't want the grief.
I always vote for it in committee, as the folks who show up are Louisville and Lexington folks from the liberal, save the state, group.
I really ticked them off when I asked the committee chair how many persimmon sprouts it would take to make a senic drive.

WOW, you're getting serious! Let me know if you have extra space for lease.

We just completed a trip through the Southeast and one thing I noted was the large number of billboards along the highways. To me they are an eyesore. I can't say that that I've been motivated by a billboard to stop at a particular location, buy a certain product or call a number. Refresh my memory - wasn't there a campaign a long time ago to beautify America and get rid of billboards? Was it during the Lady Bird Johnson era??

                    Billboards

I-95 is famous for its South of the Boarder Signs

Have you ever drove hundreds of miles along
an interstate hwy and never seen a billboard

The drive can be beautiful but very boring

When I lived in Tampa - Dale Mabry had the largest and tallest
billboards I ever seen. Really out of place for a city like Tampa

                    History of Billboard Advertising

Billboard (advertising - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

In 1965, the Highway Beautification Act was signed into law

                    Currently, four states
Vermont, Alaska, Hawaii, Maine - have prohibited billboards.
