          When God Created Fathers

          When God Created Fathers
          by Erma Bombeck

When the good Lord was creating fathers He started with a tall frame.
And a female angel nearby said, "What kind of father is that? If You're going to make children so close to the ground, why have You put fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping."
And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child-size, whom would children have to look up to?"
And when God made a father's hands, they were large and sinewy.
And the angel shook her head sadly and said, "Do You know what You're doing?" Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on ponytails or even remove splinters caused
          by baseball bats."
And God smiled and said, "I know, but they're large enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets at the end of a day ... yet small enough to cup a child's face in his hands."
And then God molded long slim legs and broad shoulders.
And the angel nearby had a heart attack. "Boy, this is the end of the week, all right," she clucked, " Do You realize You just made a father without a lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him without the kid falling between his legs?"
And God smiled and said, "A mother needs a lap. A father needs strong shoulders to pull a sled, balance a boy on a bicycle, or hold a sleepy head on the way home from the circus."
God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not fair. Do You honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"
And God smiled and said. "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a small child who wants to 'ride a horse to Banbury Cross,' or scare off mice at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill."
God worked throughout the night, giving the father few words, but a firm, authoritative voice; eyes that saw everything, but remained calm and tolerant.
Finally, almost as an afterthought, He added tears. Then He turned to the Angel and said, "Now are you satisfied that he can love as much as a mother?"
          The angel shuteth up.

            Happy Father's Day

Not sure if I'll do this correctly.
Made an attempt to do this last evening but could not figure out how to insert a tag to a message using these forums.
            (I am a newbie.)
            Hopefully this will work.
            Anyhooch...
Happy Father's day to all the Fathers and "Lathers" who are members of this wonderful forum.
Hope you all enjoy your special day.

Happy Father's Day to all fathers and grandfathers.
Anyone can be a father - it takes a special man to be a DAD.

Frank, You have a great day also!!!

Also, Happy Father's Day to all the other fathers here.

For me, looking forward to call from my older son later today and then probably go up to the restaurant where my younger boy works as a cook while he is home from college and have him cook for us!!
My younger son is out right now taking his first solo free fall in his quest for becoming certified in skydiving. He has done the tandom jump where you are strapped in with an instructor and has completed a course leading up to this jump which you go out of the plane with 2 instructors but you each have your own shute. I guess they freefall with you and then by way of helmet walkie talkies they guide you on when to open you shute and steering your way in to landing.
Anyway sorry to go on about this in this thread but I'm probably more nervous about this than he is. I told him to call on his cell when he gets back on the ground so I know he is all right.
                  Take care all.

Happy Father's Day again to all you other fathers.
Got call from older son in NYC and younger son (22) came back from his skydiving expedition and said he couldn't jump today because the winds got over 14mph and if over that they don't let students jump. So he is on for Wednesday morning now.
I'd like to go to the field with him and take photos with my long telephoto lens but I would probably not like watching him and worrying.

Hope all the Dad's had a great Father's Day.
Our only son (have 2 daughters) invited Dad to go fishing with him in the Gulf today. Dad got up early, fixed some sandwiches, and headed out to pick up Dave and they went fishing. This afternoon I drove to our daughter's house (she and our son live together in S. Ft. Myers) to have Dad's Day dinner. The guys came home...Dad won $90 for catching the biggest fish!!!! Everyone who wants, throws $2 in the pot and the person who catches the biggest fish wins! Now we have a certificate on the fridge! Have no idea how big this fish was, but it was the biggest! Way to go Gerry!!!
