  • Need Help-Yahoo LOV Group Disappeared!

How can a Yahoo Group disappear? I'm a Moderator on the LOV Yahoo Group and all of a sudden it has just disappeared. The group was not inactive. There were emails less than 2 weeks before it vanished. The owner has no clue either. I've searched Yahoo for the group. I sent an email to the group which bounced saying it doesn't exist. I cannot find an email address for Yahoo to send an inquiry.

Does anyone know why a group would just go away? Any suggestions? Can I just start another LOV group on Yahoo?

Frank, I've been working on it since then. That's how we realized it was gone.

As far as I know, only the list owner can delete a Yahoo group unless the moderator was given this privilege too. This is how it was a few years ago when I had a small private Yahoo group. I deleted it when we joined a bigger group which is still active today. The list owner is most likely the person who started the group and she decides what moderators can or cannot do.

I noticed the group missing too but all the other groups, I belong to, are still there. Some had been inactive for years so I unsubscribed from them tonight.

Pat, why don't you start a new group yourself as it is very easy to do. I thought that Carol had started a new group already but her post is from last year. Bigfrank mentioned this thread in his post above. We could all join again.

Tony, don't you mean, "Where is the LOV? Where is the LOV you said was mine, all mine, till the end of time? Was it just a lie? Where is the LOOOOOVVVV?"

Nope, her computer just broke and the group has been MIA for 2-3 weeks or so. I got this reply from Yahoo-

                        Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Groups.

We understand you would like to know the status of your Yahoo! Group
called "LadiesOnVacation". We are pleased to assist you with this
                        concern.

We have checked our records and it appears that the mentioned group is
now inactive. It may be deleted by an Owner or Moderator of the group.

Please know that deleting a group is permanent. This also means that
                        the
group has now been removed from Yahoo! Groups, unsubscribe all members,

and eliminate all archives, shared files, and calendars.

You may want to contact the owner or moderator(s) regarding this
                        concern.

What does it mean that the group is "inactive"? I told them I was a Mod in my first email. I sent another email asking them to explain further. It's really bugging me that the group disappeared and I want an answer! I will start a new group next week.

The basic problem is the platform

Yahoo Groups are based on a Microsoft server platform and are thus subject to many crashes, slowness and the corruption Microsoft is known for. Add in that they don't have much technical support to offer and you have the situation you have encountered.

I also "lost" some groups there a few years ago - they never did come back with any answers. Plus I've also had my account suddenly become disconnected from groups I have belonged to for years - I chalk it all up to more Microsoft database flakiness and, since it's free, shrug and go on. If I was paying I'd be after them but you get what you pay for (except what you pay MS for - that is lost and wasted $$$).

As always anything you can do to avoid Microsoft products and services the more likely it is you'll be happier and have better support over time. Yahoo is one of a long list of former Internet stars that tied their wagon to MS only to to fall WAY behind the leader (in this case Google). When will they ever learn?

They just mean that it is no longer there. They seem to be implying that it was deleted by a mod or owner when they say that deleting a group is permanent.

Pat, best to start a new group and be careful who you let moderate it.

Maybe you could talk BigFrank into setting up a private forum for you here- but don't tell him I suggested it.
