I get this no matter what city I look up (including big cities like NY and L.A.)
I'm thinking this website doesn't work with my computer (Mac) or browser (Safari) although it doesn't tell me that. Anyone else have this problem?Originally posted by bigfrankI got that for one of the Hawaiian Islands but the other two had winning bids. Check SF there are always winning bids posted for that one and Newport RI had a $130 winning bid for goat Island which is a good deal.Originally posted by thv13I got the same error or no bids posted tody for San Fran and Newport just now..no bids listed????Tom
I am still getting winning bids for those areas. Maybe you have to try to log into PL and find the link from your accounts page under priceline rewards.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Originally posted by zdxlc9p6I have never been successful with Priceline on cars! I have a premium rented for tomorrow at a rate of $49 plus tax. Hotwire is showing $50, with a direct link to PL. When I submit an offer of $43, Priceline states "$43.00 per day would be a great price to get for your Premium Car but it's so far below currently available retail rates that none of our partners are likely to accept it. Good chance-$69, great chance $72." That's $19-22 more than their partner price, Hotwire! I don't even bother with them anymore.
Just because they say you should bid $70 doesn't mean you have to bid that amount. I always ignore the suggested figure and bid what I'm willing to pay. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. FWIW I have bid their suggested amount when prices were actually above that figure and still haven't won the bid for my dates.
Keep in mind that rental rates fluctuate constantly......sometimes several times during the day. What you rented for and what the current rate is could be two very different rates. I always book as soon as I have dates and flight times and then watch to see if it goes down. By the time I was ready to travel to Nashville and pick up our car I had saved close to $100 off the original price I had booked. I just modified the car rental reservation (kept the same car, dates and times) and the new price came up. With companies you must create an entirely new reservation and cancel the old reservation to get the new price.
I never bid for a car on Priceline until the last minute since rates can vary wildly from start to finish. I don' want a good rate six months out that becomes a higher rate that what the rental company charges somewhere in between. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

Definitely look at biddingfortravel
In my single days, I traveled exclusively w/Priceline bids for hotels/cars. This Feb I had a midsize for 140/wk all inclusive in Orlando but they ran out and we got upgraded to the mini van for free. I've gotten hotels in Chicago, Orlando, St. John, Honolulu, Kauai, D.C., Baltimore, Philly suburbs at great discounts. The only stinker of the bunch was this place in Honolulu that we used for one night so we wouldn't miss our AM flight to the mainland which was somewhat scary and convinced me to ditch Priceline for hotels for the sake of my marriage.
I would reserve a car through one of the major companies so that you have something that you can cancel if you're able to get a car via Priceline. Biddingfortravel is a great resource for how to structure your bidding for multiple attempts in the same area (for hotels) at increasing price points. Disregard the screen about low likelihood of succeeding w/low bids. I often get the same price that was considered unlikely a few wks closer even though I may start bidding a few months in advance.

I've sort of learned never to bid on anything less than 3 stars with Priceline. While most of the 2 star hotels are well recoginized chains there are definately some dumps among that group. Twice I've been burned at the two star level. I've had some at the 3 star level that weren't so great but none that have not been at least livable and safe. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

Not sure how helpful I will find the winning bid info yet. I still think the actual bids on biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com are going to be the best source. But information it power so anything we can get is useful.

Just bid what you're willing to pay, considering all the limitations of Priceline. I'm usually willing to pay a bit more through the regular car-rental places to get the ability to cancel or change reservations, use my preferred-status number, and so on.Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)
